I have a recommendation for how to handle gun mounts that would allow for an increased number of mounting positions without drastically changing the interface.
Presently you select a gun mount from one of the following centerline options: A -Forward B -Forward Superimposed C -Forward Centreline L -Forward Centreline Q -Midships R -Aft Centreline V -Aft Centreline Superimposed W -Aft Centreline X - Aft Superimposed
Y - Aft
My recommendation is to ditch the fixed superfiring positions and allow every turret to be made superfiring by checkbox. In addition each gun position may be "reversed" relative to its preferred facing. Turrets on the same level must be spaced apart enough to rotate through the preferred direction. This confers a weight penalty if a turret must be pushed further fore/aft for clearance. Guns of superfiring turrets do not interfere with the spacing of turrets below them. Thus reversing turrets can save weight but restrict arcs of fire (see IJN Maya for example). Turrets on the quartedeck act as though they are a deck lower than turrets on the aftdeck.
I also recommend adding a fourth gun position forward to match the four available aft; allow guns on the same level to fire over each other if the elevation would be sufficient to clear the forward gun (perhaps settle on an angle); maybe allow guns obstructed by turrets to fire in offset angles forward/aft (as opposed to the stricter limits imposed when firing aft from forward.
