Since the release of RtW2, a considerable number of high quality mods have been produced by several people, most, if not all of which are available via the MOD LIST thread on this forum.
These mods range from the purely cosmetic, such as flags and sounds. To major pieces of work that add extra nations, produce legacy fleets etc.
Given that RtW3 will essentially be a new game, albeit based on the current version. Has any testing been done or is it planned to undertake any testing by the dev’s of these mods in conjunction with the new release?
While I am not an active modder, I think that it would be of considerable interest to many players, both mod users and creators to be given a heads up on whether the mods listed on this forum will be usable in RtW3.
This could be as simple as listing each mod on the list and putting a comment next to it indicating whether it was either compatible or not with RtW3. Of course even if a mod was listed as being compatible, it would still be understood that its application may have unintended consequences.
Another question that occurs to me is. Will any of the currently listed mods be rendered obsolete in RtW3, by virtue of the fact that some or much of what they are designed to achieve has been (or will be) incorporated into the official game? I am thinking here in particular of the Realistic Speed mod. If this mod does what its name suggests (and I have not seen any comments indicating that it fails to do so), then it would make sense to me to incorporate this into the base game, thus making the mod obsolete. But if no one is made aware of the fact that it had been made obsolete, players may apply it to the new version, which would be totally pointless.
Lastly, will the mod-ability of the game be increased in any way? I recall reading in a previous post on the forum that while the performance of the early (piston engined) aircraft was mod-able, the performance of jet aircraft was hard coded and thus was not mod-able. This strikes me as being like saying that you are able to design and build your own ships, but only up to a certain date or tech level. After which you have to use ships whose designs are hard coded! Whilst citing the example of aircraft, I appreciate that RtW is a naval game, not an aviation one.
Can I finally give a big thank you to those people who have obviously spent (and continue to spend) a considerable amount of time and effort into producing these mods, which add enjoyment (and hence value) to what is already a very good game.
