Been playing for a long time and heavily involved at times with guides on the forums. Decided to play a bit more. Still... really??? still??? Manually detached ships turn around to come back to the fight and probably die. Rear Admiral's mode. WHY! WHY after all this time hasn't this day-one bug not been fixed? Please just give us a Role for "Go home" or "Go on course" in the Role selections (where core, support etc are). I the commander have decided such a ship is to go home. Its got damaged, its a DD with no more torpedoes whatever. Stop over riding the player decision! Seriously.... Still?

AI should also send its badly damaged ships home instead of helping us kill them.

Fixing the problem on the AI side is useful but the critical frustration is the disregard of the player's choice to send his ship's home. Rear Admiral level is the one I play at.
A version of a fix would be a "roles" in the drop down for go north, go south, go west, go east. As these direction commands can also be useful in other ways like dealing with carriers.
Really though... disregarding the player's decision is a bad game call and has frustrated many.

I get you, a lot of things the AI does feel frustrating as a player. For me the worst is the lousy damage control behavior where even if the lead division is going 4 knots with no threat in sight, a ship with bad flotation damage will steam 10 knots in zigzags around it. But when I remember that this is happening to the AI, I feel worse. Personally I only play Admiral mode nowadays so I don't have your particular problem but there are various issues like that.
