i got these from a forum post so not really authoritative, but it's the only info i could find with google They must be referring to an action in WW1 because the Japanese had four reload torpedoes carried in watertight steel boxes aft of the torpedo mount. Under good conditions, it was possible to reload in 3 minutes but it did not always work. Under worse than normal conditions, 20-30 minutes might be the time. Hand reloading took about 5 minutes. The mount was designated as the Type 92 Torpedo Tube Mount. Tubes were carried by Japanese destroyers and light cruisers. Shigure was equipped with this torpedo tube system. Source: Japanese Torpedoes and Tubes Article 3 above-Water Tubes from the US Naval Technical Mission to Japan dtd March 1946. I know that the HMS Spitfire, according to her report, on 31 May 1916 at night, after firing two torpedoes, turned away to the south to gain time to reload her tubes. Unfortunately, the davit was hit while loading the last torpedo, she was unable to finish the loading.
