Thank you,so if I build a 27 knot battleship in 1920 it would not appear in cruiser battles? that should be the case, although sometimes battles throw a curve at you
i havn't fully tested this yet, but it seems ships with 12.5" of belt armour or more will be classified a BB no matter the speed - i assume it's because 12" of belt armour is likely the max a BC can have I think this is time and technology dependent. I've built 32 knot ships with 13" of belt armor in the late '40s and the game accepted them as BCs.

In the late game, I think the threshold is like 31 or 32 knots.

If fast battleships of 27 knots will turn up in cruiser battles is it a good idea to just build them as you make them more heavily armoured and at less expense?

This is the type of ship I'd like to see listed as a CA in the game after about 1925ish or so. A supercruiser for sure, but not a battlecruiser by any means. View AttachmentTotally agreed on this. It's something that can actually fill the role an armored cruiser did while being much more affordable then say, an Iowa. The issue in game being that this miniature Alaska of yours would be stacked up against said Iowa.

For clarity's sake, I think the OP needs to be rephrased as: when do BBs of 27 knots+ show up in cruiser battles as BC substitutes? I'm fooling around with a save where I began building 28 knot BB in 1915, and no BC at all. Curious to know if those BB will show up to fight the hapless BCs of other nations (although my experience thus far in RTW is that nobody wants to fight battles after 1920-ish with me).
