For every aircraft except Fighter, Range is usually a component of my research requests. However, once the range, especially for the patrol boats and medium bombers, gets close to 1000, they seem to take less advantage of this extra range. Sometimes, even though my medium bombers and patrol boats are in range of the enemy, they don't even try to send out aircraft. I'm not even sure if they send out scout aircraft. For instance, If I control Iceland with very long range bombers, I do not recall an instance where they supported my battles in the middle or southern North Sea, even if they had the range.
Is there a range past which the airbase aircraft will not form attacks? Or do they just happen so infrequently that I missed them when they occur? Is there a range at which the likelihood of airbase aircraft mounting a strike starts to decrease? It may impact the point at which I shift from asking for long ranged aircraft and start focusing more on speed or other factors.

In RTW2, I'd often find that an airbase that should have been well within range wasn't, because only bases within the sea zone would show up. So I'd have a battle off the Malayan Peninsula (SE Asia), for instance, but the air base chock full of MBs at Rangoon (Ind. Ocean) wouldn't even be in the battle.

I'd mentally explain it away as "higher priority mission" but... it kinda doesn't match the way aviation works. A base in Rangoon would ABSOLUTELY be sending up search/patrol flights every morning, across every bit of the IO and Straits of Malacca they could reach.
