I just had a question about how government transitions work.
I understand that nations start with their historic governments in the starting year that you choose.
If, however, you start before a particular government emerges [fascist Italy, Germany, Japan, or Spain, or Communist China / Russia], will you be given the option to transition to those governments during the historical change-of-government?
Or are you restricted to starting with that particular government during one of the selectible starting years in order to start as that government?

There is no guaranteed change of government during a play through.
It takes a revolution, which is normally dependent on Unrest level, and you may be approached by the revolutionaries for assistance.

As the player as those countries you'll often get events where you get approached by people planning a take-over and can choose to support them, stay neutral, or oppose them with your choice influencing (but not deciding) the outcome. In my current German playthrough I had it happen twice in the twenties/thirties. And Japan and Italy went Fascist and Russia Communist on their own.

Thanks. So it seems as I may have to influence events if I wish for a change of outcome.
