Finally started a game other than 1890 and ran into the following issues:
All comments apply to the 1920 start with the US, Versailles and Washington Treaty, and super budget.
Illegal designs - I usually get multiple 14" BBs with triple turrets. Due to TPS >1 all of these designs are illegal out the gate and I can never rebuild them. No oil, no AA upgrades, eventually no radar, etc, etc, etc.
Guns - In 1920 the US only has 12", 14" and 16" guns. I had one game where every US BB/BC with guns larger than 12" had guns of either 13" or 15". This was actually the best start for me, they all had double vice triple turrets and I could actually upgrade any of them. Great but just wrong.
BC names - The game uses Cruiser names for BC in the 1920 game start build for the US.
Washington Naval Treaty - Historic limits was 535,000 tons BB and 135,000 tons CV for the US and GB, or 670,000 total. Since the game apparently cannot handle separate BB and CV limits. The highest I ever get for the US is around 540,000 or so. And GB usually gets around 600,000 tons.
US/GB balance - However the game calculates tonnage limits, the US and GB never get the same tonnage limit with the 1920 start. That was the major outcome of the Washington treaty. GB no longer ruled the waves, they had to share with the US, equally. I've even had later limitation treaties (1930 or so) where the disparity between the two was even greater.
CV build tonnage - The 10,000 ton limit should not apply to CV, nations could build any size carrier as long as the total constructed remained under 135,000 for the US/ GB and 81,000 for Japan. And conversions didn't apply. Although there was a clause where CVLs under 10,000 did not count against the limit (thanks Japan!). Unable to build any CV under the treaty.
BC with short range - BC were scouts, commerce raiders and commerce protectors. What use is a BC with a short range? And for the US a basic requirement from about 1910 and later would be the ability for any major warship to sail from the west cost to the Philippines in wartime. All US BB/BC built after about 1910 should have medium range as a minimum, long range preferrable. GB with global commitments built the Queen Elizabeth's with a range of about 5,000 NM, US Standard BB were built at the same time with a range of 8,000 nm.
Minor peeve - Not starting 1920 with two massive 33,000 ton BC I can rebuild to CV.
Another minor peeve - The world's major navies (US, GB and Japan) were all building/designing BB with 16" guns in 1920. Allowing each navy to have 2-3 16" BB was part of the Washington treaty
Nice to have feature - Under guns in research it would be great to select which guns are researched. It would be great as the US to focus research on 3", 4", 5", 6", 8", 10", 12", 14" and 16". GB build those larger odd number guns (9", 13" and 15"), the US didn't, we like even numbers.
I really love this game, but there so many little issues, although the illegal designs at 1920 game start are a major problem.
