"Make it big." Hopeful voice: "What do you think about this design, sir?" "I said big, as in BIG!" Frustrated voice: "But sir, this design is already as large as what our shipyards can actually build." "Then expand the shipyards, dammit!" Depressed voice: "Yes sir."
Low, mumbling voice: "...idiot...budget...bloody stupid..."

Is the limit indeed 300 characters or 300 words for the description? Very cool idea, will take part in it!

The "humorous, knowledgeable or just a darn good tale about your ship" will have to be telegraphic if we're going to keep it down to 300 characters: me, big ships, boom, boom.

It is 300 characters, not words. I did discuss with Matrix about the limit after finding it out, their worry was overwhelming the judges with too much/many 'walls of text', and they also need to post them on social media which can have stringent length limits. I guess look at it as also an exercise in being as concise as possible...but for any additional such contests I will suggest the limit be greater, certainly.

Maybe for the future? a compulsory 300-character short version that can be posted in social media and an optional longer 500-word version. The judges will always read the short version but the long one only if they are interested in the design.

Will there be an overview post of all valid submissions on the forum or will we have to monitor the social media channels of Matrix Games to spot all these fancy fighting ships?

As I understand it the winners will be posted, along with some 'honorable mentions' as well.

Ive never before heard of a written submission being based on characters not words.

Ive never before heard of a written submission being based on characters not words. I also had written two nice 300 word texts before noting that it is actually characters. In school I was quite good at doing tasks. But often it was not the assigned task because I read something the wrong way :-(

Okay, the stream was good. And kudos to the winners, although the battle carrier was crazy However, the competition was mismanaged to the point of unfairness. You cannot on the one hand set a limit of 300 characters and then happily anounce winners of whom 1/3 openly violate said rule, with the judges happily referring to something that would not have had existed were the rules observed. Asking the guys who violated the rule to resubmit with a compliant description would take 10 minutes tops. Instructing the judges to ignore it would take 2.
