To set the scene: I have alliances in place with France and Japan. Russia has alliances in place with Italy and the USA. The USA and Japan are also allied. War broke with Russia, and Italy quickly joined the Russia whilst Japan joined my forces. The USA then joined the Russians and Italians - but didn't cancel their alliance with Japan (who is at war with their allies), leading to the oddball situation that I now have rising tensions with an ally who is allied to an opponent. Whilst I appreciate IRL diplomacy and such-like can be even more complex than this, I am of the opinion that for game purposes, simple is better. With that in mind, I feel the alliance between the USA and Japan should be severely strained due to the war situation - Japan being at war with both of the allies of the USA and the USA being at war with Japan's ally and fail before the tensions between Japan and myself left olive green. We can look at some potential adjustments to the logic of such complex situations, thanks.
