How important is splinter proofing BE and DE when using all or nothing armour? (ie adding 2 inches of armour)
The manual says "BE and DE armour are assumed to cover only such things as uptakes and steering mechanisms" but what is covered by BE and what is covered by DE?
DE is more costly (in weight) but does it cover more things? Can you get away with armouring one and leaving the other?
I worry if I leave them completely unarmoured then near misses and destroyer grade weapons will cause flotation damage and allow the uptakes to be perforated, slowing the whole division down
But I also don't know if this happens often enough to justify the weight and cost, or if 2in of armour is significant enough to prevent this anyway
What's your doctrine and experience regarding all or nothing armour? Let me know your thoughts

Best to armor both as much as possible! BE/DE still cover a lot of crittable areas on an AoN ship, so if tonnage permits I go uniform B/BE and D/DE. A typical armor scheme I have for a later fast battleship is 15-16" B/BE 4-5" D/DE.
Since horizontal pen of guns and bombs is low in RTW3, and ship-to-ship missiles never hit the deck, deck over 5" gets pretty wasteful.

I always splinter protect everything.Once I have some reserve displacement, I go for almost uniform belt and deck.
