Is there a mod that swaps A-H for China if you are playing as the US? I feel like the Chinese would be more relevant to a US campaign vis-a-vis Japan in the Pacific than A-H would be locked in the Adriatic...

Bump, I find this really relevant, and it makes the map globe more spread out, anyone got any wisdom to share?

Super easy to do yourself. Disclaimer to always backup original files though with steam its pretty easy to just uninstall and reinstall if you really mess up
- Open up your RTW3 Data Folder and locate "JapanWarInfo1890.dat" and "USAWarInfo.dat" and open them up - in the Japan file search for [Nation8] which is China. Highlight everything from the first [Nation8] line to the end of the file and copy - in the USA file again search for [Nation8] (Austria-Hungary) and highlight to the end of the file and paste.
When you next start an 1890 or 1900 as the USn AH will be replaced with China. I've done this with most of my games as I find a 2nd pacific Asian power is much more engaging than the 2nd Mediterranean powers. You can use this to mix and match all the base game nations as you want just ensure that you have Nations 1-8 with no duplicates or gaps or you'll run into a bunch of errors

It doesn't seem to work rn, when I opened "JapanWarInfo.dat" nation 8 was Austria-Hungary and swapping it into "USAWarInfo.dat" and then launching a new game doesn't appear to have done anything. Edit: had the wrong file, was copying from "JapanWarInfo.dat" not "JapanWarInfo1890.dat". Now Nation8 in USAWarInfo.dat file is China, but China still isn't showing up on the map. Edit2: I think I've gotten it working, I copied the mapdataX.dat file from a 1890 japan game save slot and used it to replaced the mapdataX.dat file in a 1890 US game save game slot. I also did took the Nation8 and Nation 9 text in the RTWGameX.bcs file from the japan save and used it to overwrite the same information in the same file for the 1890 US save game slot. It's not perfect, it still needs the class information for the 2 Si Ning class Bs and the 1 CA China starts the game building in Japanese docks, which throw errors that need you to reassign the ships to other existing classes.

Once the game is already started you do have to do more fiddling around. Looks like you figured it out with map transfer and assigning ship classes, thats how I initially did it when I first started doing it. Though the ship class modifying is significantly more annoying now since the update that put all ships into one file.
However, since you fixed yourself actually putting china in your USwarinfo you should be able to just start a new game with no extra steps. I've done this with nearly every Warinfo file and currently playing a French game with China as Nation2 (just copied the info as Nation8, put it in an empty file to ctrl+h replace Nation8 -> Nation2 and then pasted over Austria hungry)
I'm currently fumbling my way through the bnat files to create my own custom nations and making placeholder warinfo files to be able to shuffle around nations as needed
