Is it possible to edit the files from which the game generates the 1890 starting fleets? Would like to have more realistic cruiser designs.
Is it possible to edit the number and size of ships generated?
Playing Britain and the 1890 start gives you lots of 9000 ton cruisers and fewer smaller cruisers and KEs
Thank you

It should be possible, but since they won't let us actually build 1890 start fleets (grrr!) you'll need to play around with a Jan1890 game file and make lots of designs from that, Then you can convert them into "IDes" designs to replace all the existing ones (for all the nations plus all the generic designs too). Of course, you will probably find you need to replace a lot of the IDes designs from the later game ERAs too...? I did this for my RTW2 campaign but it was substantially easier with that, partially because the ship graphic designs were simpler/quicker to do and partly because I could at least build my own start fleets for everyone without having to reverse-convert them back into "Jan1890" forces! For RTW3 I'd started on the RN (I'd posted a WiP of that on here sonewhere?) and French but the sheer amount of file finagling got too depressing and when I realised they'd messed up (IMHO anyway) the ERAs for the whole Pre-Dreadnought period and it would probably never be very satisfactory (Setting c.1890-1895 for all the earlier stuff is why you are seeing all those ridiculous big cruisers in 1890; and having c.1896-1904 for whole of "Pre-Dreadnought" period, and using same set of "IDes" designs for that time, will destroy any sense of the historical transition through "Semi-Dreadnought" types) I must admit I have, at least temporarily, thrown in the towel! I will probably return to try again next year sometime as I do love the period and the game is generally very good, though I do find their fixation on the later period rather tiresome tbh...

Dear Cormallen Thank you for the reply - and for your earlier post with you wonderful RN ship designs and their attention to detail.
Thank you for confirming it is the IDes designs - and for also pointing out the issue then with the later sets of IDes. So even if I get the Default 1890 starting designs more historically accurate the game will still not allow the historical transition over the 1890s and early 1900s.
I will give changing the IDes designs ago, but can we still ask for later versions of the game to give us accurate 1890s default fleets and to allow us to create our own 1890s start up fleets.
