I've often wondered if floatplanes add to the overall air ASW score?
I often make 1,100 ton corvette trade protection and it can fit one. My head cannon is the floatplane would help with ASW as in daylight hours it can watch for surfaced subs or periscope wakes in ways and places the ship can't. Such as it flies at airplane speed ahead of the route of travel swinging to left and right to look for subs. Though the sub may spot the plane first and dive if the sub dives it lost the speed to position on the ship. In convoys with a few such TP KE with floatplanes the coverage gets better. Possibly one or two planes on the ahead and one flying over the convoy for local spotting.
A floatplane for the convoy also makes stray ships much easier to find and guide too.
My foreign service corvettes of 2,500 tons or light cruisers on FS/TP often have a floatplane.

It's shown in the ASW section during ship design.

Yes, I just realised that myself. However, I also checked the manual, which says that floatplanes do indeed add to the ASW capabilities of a ship (as do helicopters and special squadrons).
