Hey guys, there ís something I don't really understand in the behaving of officers.
1) I lost a ship in battle, the captain survived and is still listed as commanding officer of the ship, which lies now 300 feet below. When I want to unassign him, the game is telling me, I might lose reputation for that. Why? I mean, for the moment, he is the only officer, commanding a sunken vessel, but as the war proceeds, it might change (hope not though, lol) and it can become very messy to keep an overview about it.
2) Is it intended, when I assign a captain - who was previously commanding a division of light cruisers - to a new command of my brand new battleship, that he still is in command of the division? When I want to assign another officer to that division, the game tells me, I might lose prestige again.
3) I'm still struggling with getting fresh new officers in the lowest rank. The game creates new ones, when I can't assign any to the new command, but those new ones have quite some years in the rank ... breaks a bit the immersion imho.
4) Even though there aren't many unassigned captains anymore, none of my commanders get a promotion. I can do it by my own, but as I really started to build up my navy fast, it will cost me a fortune of my little prestige. It's baffling to me, how to shape at least my navy a little bit more. I'd suggest, that you can promote officers, who spent a certain time in a rank or took place in a couple of battles could be promoted without prestige costs. Same would work for well connected officers (or those may get an auto promotion earlier/easier). Also to have more new commanders joining your ranks each year, coming from the naval academy.
PS: I really love that feature. I know, it probably won't happen in RtW3, but maybe in the next itteration of the series, I'd like to see this feature expanded. What I really do miss is a possibility, like with ships history, to see the career path of an officer in game. I try to track it on my own, but it is pretty lavish to do it in excel.

1 - Sounds like a bug to me
2 - No he can't command a CL Division and also be a battleship captain. This sounds like another bug
3 - I agree totally. The current system doesn't create enough commanders. I instead have too many Rear Admirals...
4 - I don't see this. My commanders absolutely get automatically promoted with time (most of them anyway, if they are good). I have seen some useless incompetents retire, never advancing at all in rank, but that is rare.
In summary, I would make separate bug reports for 1 and 2, with saves showing this behavior.

3 - I agree totally. The current system doesn't create enough commanders. I instead have too many Rear Admirals... I have the opposite problem. Too many Rear Admirals and not enough Admirals. It's getting to the point where I have areas without a command for years on end. Without having to manually promote Rear Admirals and sacrifice prestige to do so, how the heck do I get Admirals? Do I need to put together divisions for Rear Admirals to command in order to progress their career path into Admirals?

I've noticed a bit of an update delay when changing the role of a commanding officer. Try changing tabs or opening the division page.

I'll report 1 & 2.
To 3: I'd be happy, if they also generate more commanders at all, so they have to progress threw the ranks. Maybe give us the ability to promote them after a certain threshold of years without lose of prestige.
To 4: About 2/3 of my officers are more than 5 years in their current rank. From the manual I take, it should be after 5 years in average to get a promotion.
