I had an SSC in the Med sunk by Russian aircraft. The immediate problem I see with that however is that Russia has no airfields anywhere near the area. However they are allied with France and they have plenty of those. So my question is: are Russian aircraft operating from French airfields? If so - how does the AI handle this and decide where to base them? Can they go over the plane limit per field?
On the other side, if I have allies, can they or I base aircraft at each other's bases? Or is this a bug? Or...is there simply a "chance" that aircraft from a hostile nation can sink subs every turn regardless of actual airbase location? If so...this would seem sub-optimal.

Although Fredrik would be the best one to answer this, I believe at present that the factor determining vulnerable sea-zones is friendly bases, friendly to your foe that is. I'm not aware of any code written for aircraft flying out of 'friendly' bases other than their own though, so if I had to guess your war started with Russia originally and France joined them, so the 'flag' indicating primary foe is thrown for Russia, and when it calls for the detail ID after it determines this randomization of a loss it gets Russian aircraft despite the fact that it should be French.
Another one for the long list. Though I'm sure you could head-canon it that its a small detachment sent for the job, because they had different equipment they wanted to test.

Well this started with France, and Russia came in to back them, so it would be the other way around. In a similar fashion, I am suffering submarine losses from Russian KEs, despite none of them being listed in the Mediterranean. This is very similar to my losses to enemy aircraft, when neither are being listed as based anywhere in range...

It checks aircraft in the same area as the sub, so a Russian aircraft sinking a sub in an area they have no bases is not intended to happen. Was there by any chance a Russian carrier in the area?Edit: Seems there was a bug with getting the name of the nation whose aircraft actually sank the sub. So it was most likely sunk by a French aircraft but the Russians got the credit. Thanks for the reposrt.

Does this also apply to the KEs? Because where the "Russian" KEs were sinking subs was in the Med, and when I check I never see any of those in the region.
