I am wondering how I can see when certain gun technologies appear, like if for example 6" Q0 guns are supposed to arrive in 1900 +- 3 years or 1910 +- 5 years, or that sort of stuff. It would be nice if a country like Great Britain could be coded to get Q-1 18-inch guns around the same time as anyone else gets Q0 15-inch guns, for example, bringing quite the bit of flavor to the game.

Beyond the tech that allows developing Q-1 long guns, there seem to be some time gated stuff (like Q2 5 inch) but also a lot of variety , for instance sometimes one nation get's Q1 16 inches while the others stuck at 0, Q0 18+ guns for me also appear to be extremelly rare for me. If I have to venture I imagine it works similar to other tech where there is a year and a chance to skip techs, meaning guns would already be somewhat year locked.

Gun development is controlled by a series of hardcoded rules: you can't get +1 guns over 8" or +0 guns over 12" before around 1900, you can't get +2 guns before around 1950, guns over 16" will almost always be -1, and AFAIK only certain calibers can be skipped past (11", 13" and 17"). Other than that, the order in which guns are unlocked/upgraded seems to be totally random. Except for the 2" +1 guns, those get top priority
It is possible to give modded nation a bonus to general gun development tech (Research22Advantage=1) but I'm not sure it does anything useful.

Assuming the research advantage works in a similar fashion to the other ones, it should allow you access to whatever the next technology is in the category a year early. Of course, with how certain gun calibers are hard-coded, I'm not sure if the advantage also moves the hard-coded gate year up as well (e.g from 1900 to 1899).
