As the title states, these ships, which I got simply by opening a new 1890 Britain game, are invalid. But it should be known the reason why they are invalid is because of "bug fixes" that instead functioned as new rules. While they are intentional, they seem to break the original vision of this game. I am making another thread because this definitely does not seem right; it is one thing to see player builds suffer, it is another to not be able to upgrade starter designs. Attachments:

Having the exact same issue, my current game as the UK has just been buggered as the bulk of my fleet is made from protected cruiser CLs.

In 1890 it is legal to build protective cruisers with up to 4“ B, not only for legacy ships but you could design such a ship yourself. When you try to built the same ship for the manual legacy fleet of a 1900 start the design is illegal, the max B for a protective cruiser is now only 3“. I don‘t know which year or tech triggers this change, but for already existing ships with 4“ B protective deck there is no longer a legal definition.

But only up to 7" caliber, for some reason. 8" and 9" ships have to only use 3" belt. Even if I make a new ship, it's the same. Attachments:
