Currently, according to the Official-Unofficial discord meta-people Secbat outperforms Mainbat in almost every way. When you look at the qualities of Secbat it's easy to see why
Positives:
-Doesn't Jam
-360 degree firing arcs
-Shares ammo between guns
-Are always on deliberate fire (more accuracy and higher rate of fire)
Negatives
-Worse FC
I propose a number of changes to make Mainbat, especially later in the game, an effective, primary, weapon
1.Reduce Non Casemated gun fire arcs
A secondary battery gun that isn't in a casemate (and thus far enough forward to have a clear arc of fire) shouldn't be able to engage enemy ships directly ahead or behind the firing ship, if the NWS team wants to, tech can be added in the 1930s which allow for the first two gun turrets to fire fore and aft (superfiring secondary battery)
2.Reduce Non Casemated gun numbers
Secondary guns on the deck should logically have less space, and thus less room, to mount large numbers of secondary guns. The maximum gun limit should thus be less for non casemated guns to prevent people from mounting ahistorically large numbers of non casemated guns on ships
3. Make all guns under 6 inch fire on rapid fire, reduce accuracy before range found
All guns under 6 inches should use rapid fire (in order to make use of their high rate of fire. Furthermore, deliberate fire should be split into rapid fire (range not found) and rapid fire (range found). The prior has accuracy equal to ranging fire, while the later is the same as normal deliberate fire. This should allow for guns and autoloaders to make use of their rate of fire without ahistorically increasing their accuracy
5. Increase midship Gun arcs
This would massively improve Mainbat's ability to engage other ships. Gun arcs should be a lot wider and possibly less generic (port/starboard forward guns fire more forward, C turret fires more forward since it is just aft of B turret, Q has wider arcs forward and backward since it is in the middle.)
4. Make secbat guns jam
This should prevent player from stacking insane amounts of very powerful secbat on their ships, as well as increasing the use of casemate guns, which have a large number of negatives, but now have a lot of positives too! Furthermore, it isn't overly complicated and doesn't massively increase the complexity of the game.
Another suggestion: Allow same caliber secbat, if guns are in different mounts
This basically means that if you have casemates and single guns, or single guns and double guns, you can have both types, with the one in the tertiary slot having debuffs accordingly. This is mostly to model US slow BBs which had 5 inch 51 caliber single purpose anti destroyer guns, and 5 inch 25 caliber anti aircraft guns. This will allow that split.
