SAM performance and slight tech variation

In my US Late campaign i get the feeling that SAM performance is rly underwhelming. I lost a whole supercarrier-taskforce in 1965 to missile & even bombstrikes while only downing 6 and damaging a few jets. Clearly a single carrier with support can be sunk as my cap was lacking without 3-4 carriers...

The thing that surprised me was my sam performance, 6D and 2CL were fitted with MSAM and the carrier had additional LSAMs.

Time and time the attack sequence looked like this:

6 HJF attack CV
2MSAM of D fire
No aircraft hit
2MSAM of CL fire
No aircraft hit
2MSAM of CV fire
No aircraft hit

HAA damages 1 Aircraft
MAA destroys 1 Aircraft...

My Radar AA & HAA did more killing than a whole SAM-screen?

Any of you had similar experiance
The campaign ist at slight tech variation and 90% tech but i feel like the rest of tech performes quite predictable.

That's not an irregular situation based on what we know from historical SAM usage.
The highest ever SAM success rate was 72% for Sea Wolf SAM in Falklands War - and that's for then state-of-the-art brand-new SAM against aircraft attacking head-on with dumb bombs, not using any form of ECM and even not outfitted with RWR.
For more even encounters, historical SAM hit rate usually wasn't higher than 10%.
In previous versions we had absolutely overpowered SAMs with hit rates being more like those expected from nuclear-tipped SAMs.
