I have read in the manual that if one keeps a scout or screen formation at night then there is a chance those ships will lose contact with the division. My problem is if i change a cruiser or destroyer division to support for example at night which had been on scout, then they fall back as they should, behind the battle cruisers/ships, leaving these big ships exposed and leaving them to scout forward which isn't ideal.
What formation should i use at night for cruisers and destroyers to give these big ships all round effectiveness and protection please?

May try it with Screen fornation. It's closer than scouting bit won't expose your main battle line at all.

The scouting formation seems to be based on Day time distances. I have had instances where enemy formations have cut between the scouts and the main formation at night and in bad weather.
I now shift scouts to screen in bad visibility condition, but this is often then too close.
It sort of works to put a DD flotilla in front of the main force then the cruisers screening them, but that is a game mechanic work around, it would be good to be able to have the AI manage this for us in a period appropriate way.
