No words are necessary:
Oh, and did I mention the 20 that finished last month? Or the fact that it's October 1904?
Historical Germany playthrough, here we go
(Yes, I know they were slow on the uptake historically, but let me have my fun )
Edit: Bit early, but what the heck:
Literally the first month of the first war:
I'm sorry but what does the rest of your fleet look like when you're able to spend this kind of dosh on early subs? I'm assuming this is on the largest fleet setting.

It was 1904; I had tons of money (enough that, if I waited much longer, I'd get the "you have too much money, so f*** you" event); I hadn't unlocked dreadnoughts, and early game ships (especially destroyers and pre-dreads) are pretty useless. So I figured, why not splash out a couple of hundred thousand moneys on 150 coastal subs?

This morning I wake up earlier than my 4 years old daughter.
When she finally wake up she came to me with my PC running RTW2 and design window of destroyer opened. I was quite suprised that from this top view she was able to recognized that this is a ship.

That is great, thanks! You just made my day! RTW may not have the most glitzy graphics, but they seem to do the job!

New game playing Japan with non-historic budget.
Decided to play a gamble with the initial pre-dreadnoughts designed and built abroad...
...with the extra game of chosing to use for the main gun twin turrets 13 inch quality minus two (-2).
The plan bearing fruit to a year or so into the game a foreign yard refit to make them 13in minus one (-1) quality.
All the pre-dreads are in for that refit when war breaks out!
Japan of course gets to do a surprise battle...
...with none of its pre-dreadnoughts which are all still in foreign drydocks for several more months.
The enemy defenders have at least one pre-dreadnought to challenge my 9 inch cruiser!
Ha ha! Double sided surprise on them and me!

Hit from 55 yds. I wonder if the Resolution's captain ordered his crew to board Maxim Gorky before that.
:EDIT: And it's even more puzzling to ask how on earth they managed to hit the turret top from that distance.
I think what bothers me more is not that the Turret got hit, but the near miss. HOW DO YOU MISS 55 yds away? you can throw a ball that far and hit the damn ship. You have to try real darn hard to find open sea over your sights.

Perhaps they got cocky and aimed for the flag?

Looks like the Russians have invented the crystal ball. Not only did they know exactly what to name that destroyer, but their newest destroyer class, the Chestni-class, appears to have a vertical launch system for one of it's torpedo launchers:

Right, sorry for the wall of text, but this one needs a bit of back story. Don't worry, it's worth it (I hope).
So, as you've probably noticed, I've been fighting a war with Russia. It's currently 1912, so, as you'd expect, both sides' fleets consist primarily of pre-dreadnoughts, but both sides also have a handful of newer vessels. My pre-dreadnoughts are superior to theirs, because I have 12"/Q0 guns, while they still only have 12"/Q-1. They have a single dreadnought, armed with 12" guns, in the same layout as the historical HMS Dreadnought, as well as 2 battlecruisers (one of which I've already sunk), each with 6 13" guns (not sure about the quality, but I think -1). I have 5 dreadnoughts, each with 10 14"/Q0 guns, and, while only 3 are centreline-mounted, the other 2 are cross-deck fire-capable, so each of my dreadnoughts is vastly superior to their one. I have no battlecruisers (4 under construction, but over a year from completion).
My dreadnoughts have encountered theirs (and their battlecruisers) on numerous occasions (at least 5 separate dreadnought vs dreadnought battles). I managed to isolate one of their battlecruisers and sink her with gunfire; they managed to torpedo one of my dreadnoughts in a night engagement. However, their dreadnought keeps escaping. Either night arrives at just the right moment and they slip away, or they position their destroyer screen perfectly to prevent a pursuit, or they manage to damage one of my dreadnoughts and I disengage to keep her alive (I'm Germany; don't want that prestige hit). Whatever happens, in pretty much every case, the battle always goes pretty much the same way: The 2 sides engage, slug it out in line-of-battle, they disengage with moderate-heavy damage and I (for whatever reason) am unable to pursue.
This battle was going much the same. We'd been slugging it out for half an hour or so, they began to turn away and move their destroyers into screening positions. It looked like she was going to get away once aga-
EDIT: Meh, I'll take it.
EDIT 2: Also, Iron Cross for the captain of Preussen, who, having scored the killing blow on the enemy dreadnought, then, despite taking a major torpedo hit that caused severe flooding and damaged the machinery, reducing speed to 8kn, still managed to limp back to Emden.

Sorry to spoil the joke, but IIRC Burni actually means storming or stormy or something like that in Russian.

Point is, I'm not Bulgarian.

This is where the battle is taking place:
And this is the recon plan for the brand new airship base at Kolberg:
I think there might be a few kinks in the system to work out. Although, when we invent bombs, our strategic bombing campaign will be fantastic. I just hope (neutral) Sweden won't mind...

Whoever commands my fleet up to the moment I take control chose a... strange formation for the fleet in this battle.

This guy...
...apparently just took a torpedo. Those destroyers I have selected, in the top left, are the only ships I have within 12nm of that destroyer (they're about 6/7nm away). Those range rings are their torpedo range.
Good to know the AI isn't immune to "friendly" fire either.
