I was starting a new game after updating to version 1.25. I copied my legacy fleet designs (so I don't have to constantly build them from scratch) to the save game file and opened the files in the Ship Design by clicking the 'design ship' button. I loaded the ship designs to make sure they were all legal based on the new version and to my surprise some of the ones I thought would be a problem weren't. Bonhomme Richard class CA with 24 kt top speed as a 1899 design for example. This is what it looked like when I opened the ship design file in the design ship screen.
So I was building my fleet and for reasons I can't recall I right clicked on one of my BhR ships and opened design and I ended up with this.
Suddenly my design was almost 800 tons over weight. (Which is what I thought would happen based on the new changes to engine weights in the latest version) I closed it out, went back through the 'design ship' button and when I opened the file for the design I got the legal version in the first screenshot.
I checked my 7,400 ton 24 kt 1899 Ranger and 6,400 ton 24 kt Chester class CL's and had the same thing happen. My 14,000 ton, 17 kt Indiana BB was unaffected and the 500 ton, 28 kt Bainbridge had less reserve weight available (1 ton vs. 5 tons) but was still legal.
I didn't want to see what would happen if I stated playing and fighting with ships that were so overweight so I closed the game, restarted a new game and made a BhR design from scratch to as close to my original as I could and I got this.
Close but not identical to the second picture and not legal. So I reduced the engine speed and made it legal. I then built one and right clicked and opened design and saw everything was normal as expected.
So, much ado about nothing, I'm not saying this is a bug because maybe I'm screwing with the system by copying in my saved ship designs but I just wanted to point out that anybody else who keeps their 1899 ship designs and copies them to the next game with the same country will probably have to make new ones from scratch for games started in versions 1.24-5.
