I love the smell of torped BB's in the morning...Smells like...Victory... In all seriousness, I literally cleansed the entire Mediterranean of British ships in one battle...Splendid.

37 capital ships in one battle is quite the broo-hah-hah! Yeah, it was a mess...In all honesty, I was lucky...MANY of my ships were torped, but I had more torp protection IIRC.

Not RTW, but a ship none-the-less. An unbuilt yamato look-alike I have on From The Depths...

(Is this forum against multi-posting? Just pondering!)
One thing I have noticed, is that battlecruisers count as 'cruisers' when it comes to cruiser battles, is this really correct?
As I understand it, battlecruisers were more of a proto-fast battleship, than a 'upgraded heavy cruiser'.

As I understand it, battlecruisers were more of a proto-fast battleship, than a 'upgraded heavy cruiser'. It's correct that in-game, battlecruisers can be selected for any mission that involves either cruisers or battleships. I'm no expert on the era and this is probably an oversimplification but battlecruisers were actually a development of and a replacement for the armored cruiser. They were designed to hunt down and destroy ACR's to protect Britain's commerce and also to destroy enemy scout cruisers in a fleet engagement to deny the enemy intelligence on the friendly battle-line. However, because of their size and cost, they were associated more with battleships and were eventually expected to serve with the BB's as a fast wing of the battle-line. Something the British BC's may not have had the armor to do well. Eventually, because of improved engine technology, the BB's and BC's merged in the form of the fast battleship starting I think with the Queen Elizabeth's. I believe eventually the idea of a cruiser-killing super cruiser came back around full circle with the Alaska and Japanese B-65 classes but that is outside the time frame of the game.

Well, that's my beef, technically a battlecruiser isn't a cruiser at all...

Well, that's my beef, technically a battlecruiser isn't a cruiser at all... They can be developed as "anti-cruisers" depending on the nation's doctrine so it does make some amount of sense for them to show up in cruiser-oriented battles, I think.

Well, that's my beef, technically a battlecruiser isn't a cruiser at all... No I agree, they're in a middle ground between cruisers and dreadnoughts, at least in initial conception. And maybe always a little closer to dreadnoughts because of their size. But I think the earlier BC's like the Invincible's and Indefatigable's fit more what you are looking for. Two Invincible's sank two German armored cruisers at the Battle of the Falkland Islands in WW1. That might have been part of the inspiration for battlecruisers in-game being allowed in cruiser missions. Otherwise, it would be tough for BC's to perform their cruiser-killer role if they could only be used in battleship type missions. According to it's wikipedia page, the Lion class BC was designed and built in response to the German Moltke class BC and in my opinion, that class is where you see the creep that blurs the distinction between BC and BB really begin.

Worth noting that Queen Mary's design documents are headed "Armoured Cruiser".

There are two things CA can in game do BC cannot. CA can routinely be assigned as scouts to the "main forces" in larger battles when "separate scouting force" fleet tactic has been developed (this happens with BC very rarely and I have seen it only with the battleline) at scenario start and their divisions can take "search line" formation which is sometimes very useful.
This means, especially late game, the CA fits inbetween CL and BC, though closer to BC.

Has anyone here actually SUNK a B class in 1900-1904?...
With gunfire only?...
I seemingly cannot! Even when its one B against 10, they empty their magazines before it dies...
