In the map data file, each possession seems to have six locations designated for coastal artillery. My question is, when coastal artillery (CA) is placed, does the game use the locations in the order they are written in the file or are they assigned randomly? I ask specifically about Panama. The first two CA positions defend the northern part of the territory. The third and fourth defend the southern part of the territory and the last two are in the north again. While in real life you would need artillery protecting both the north and south locks of the canal, in the game only the northern part of the territory is at risk since the game assigns Panama to the Caribbean. I usually build two artillery batteries in Panama but my last game, both ended up being in the southern positions and as I understand how the game works are completely useless as such. Since I don't want to waste my money (in game) I'm curious if the game assigns locations in order or randomly. If it's in order then there may be a bug. If it's random, then I would recommend eliminating the southern positions. I'll probably do that myself if it's random but assigning new positions is tricky since the map coordinates in game don't exactly match the numbers you find using Google Earth for example.

The actual positions of the batteries seem to be randomly assigned for each battle scenario. I have had the "same" batteries in different locations on the maps in different battles. Sometimes not all possible locations are covered before you get "doubles" so it seems to be random.

Yeah, basically missions are generated from mission files, where these positions are pre-assigned for each mission type, but you'll see these positions rotate and not all be used in each actual battle.

Also depending on the mission types themselves, you may see somewhat different positions (for example coastal bombardment missions will usually force guns to appear near targets).

Huh, my experience is that the guns are in the same place every time that map is used. However, I never really paid a lot of attention to the batteries themselves I could be wrong and also it's possible that if the territory has multiple batteries they could be swapping themselves out so they appear to be in the same place unless you examine them closely. Hopefully, if the Devs get a chance, they will confirm one way or the other. Thanks for all of your responses.

They are swapping positions and if a battery is destroyed, another is put in it's place in another battle.
