after the war, the USN wanted to replace all of the 40mm guns with 3 inch AA guns, and remove the 20mm's because they had to short of a range. is this is right oldpop2000?

I believe the germans had IR sams by the end of the war or near the end of the war, a sensor is half the battle, Tiny Tim like weapons are also worth mention but attaching fins and an IR sensor connected to them could make a guided 11inch shell, maybe

For a german Wunderwaffe, the Fritz X Bomb did a pretty large amount of damage: The two Italian battleships were attacked in harbor. So it's... 2 sneak attacks on ships in harbor not expecting a German attack (i.e. the event to blow up ship in harbor during peacetime) 1 light cruiser damaged for 3 months 1 light cruiser damaged for 2 months 1 30 year old battleship for 6 months That's a much lesser impact then say the Italian frogmen let alone the american and german guided torpedoes. Losing power and speed, Roma began to fall out of the battle group. Around 16:02, another Fritz X slammed into the starboard side of Roma's deck, between frames 123 and 136. It most likely detonated in the forward engine room, sparking flames, and causing heavy flooding in the magazines of main battery turret number two and the fore port side secondary battery turret, and putting even more pressure upon the previously stressed hull girder. Seconds after the initial blast, the number two 15 in turret was blown over the side by a massive explosion, this time from the detonation of that turret's magazines. - Wikipedia Six days later, Italia and the rest of the Italian fleet sailed for Malta, where they would be interned for the remainder of the war. While en route, the German Luftwaffe (Air Force) attacked the Italian fleet using Dornier Do 217s armed with Fritz X radio-controlled bombs. One Fritz X hit Italia just forward of turret no. 1; it passed through the ship and exited the hull, exploding in the water beneath and causing serious damage. Roma was meanwhile sunk in the attack.[27][30] - Also wikipedia

Germany had prototype SAMs by the end of the war, a SAM is not a ship-killer but can be modified to be a ship-killer

As I am currently on a 'business trip to study Spanish ship design' (holiday to madrid), I unfortunately do not have access to the drawing boards to design my beloved ships. Therefore, I would like to invite up to three designers to submit a Wignall & co battleship, armoured cruiser and destroyer design under my company guise. Please e-mail to wignalex@gmail.com with a design for approval before submittal. Happy designing! ... spanish dreadnoughts are terrible...

since RTW-2 is going to 1950 I think early guided missiles could maybe be a thing, ASROCs anti-ship missiles launched from plane sub and boat and SAM and A2A missiles as well

i personally never build coastal defenses as i'd rather spend the cash on ships to defend my coast i once built a huge pile of the torpedo boat bases once i researched them but afterwards i never saw them do anything for the rest of that game, which was what made me decide to not bother with coastal defenses after after...
