Vickers-Allington Shipbuilding Corporation is proud to present our first tender for the B2 Competition: the Superdreadnought 1916 Design!
This vessel is superior in firepower and protection to any other ship afloat, with 8 15" guns capable of penetrating 14" of Krupp armour at a range of 12,000 yards! Her protection scheme has been designed to match, optimised to repel equal firepower at ranges beyond 10,000 yards and being almost impervious to equal firepower past 15,000 yards. Her firing range goes out as far as 19,000 yards, almost as far as the eye can see on a bright summer's day!
VA would now like to address her revolutionary armour scheme: at the extreme ranges this ship may fight at, shell arcs become far more vertical, to the point where they can strike the sloped protective deck of older designs at a near right-angle, penetrating the armour easier than at shorter ranges! A flat deck others greater protection at longer ranges and also saves weight, so the deck armour itself can be thicker. Finally, anticipating that future battleships will be armed similarly to this vessel, VASC has decided that properly armouring the ends of the ship to repel her own guns is simply impossible, and with her extreme range and 8" secondary battery, no lighter warship would dare close to where their shells would be a serious threat. We have therefore decided to save weight by foregoing extended belt and deck armour and instead strengthening the watertight bulkheads at either end of the armoured citadel, so that even should the ends of the ship flood, they will not threaten the seaworthiness of the rest of the ship.
Finally, the ship is also fitted with a tertiary battery of 12 5" QF guns, intended to combat any Light Cruisers or destroyers which should be foolish enough to close with her, while her 8 8" secondaries, fitted in dual turrets, will destroy any Light or Armoured Cruiser it should face.
In all, VASC is proud to other a design which it believes to be superior to every other Battleship afloat, far more than a Dreadnought - A Super-Dreadnought! And for a cost of £91.2Mn, with a construction fee of £3.3Mn per month, she is an affordable ship for the Ottoman Navy (particularly once the current Submarine line is completed).
