Is it a bug or a feature that VPs are reset when a new belligerent joins a war? Either way, I'd like to see it fixed. a Popup states that Victory Points have been reset to reflect the change in Strategic Situation

Is it a bug or a feature that VPs are reset when a new belligerent joins a war? Either way, I'd like to see it fixed. it's a 'feature', although i'v never liked it since no nation ever joins the war on your side and it often undoes the hard work you may have put in to get ahead in VP. i always thought the VPs should be reduced by 75% or something to bring the 2 sides closer instead of both sides restarting at zero
however it works both ways and if you are losing it gives you another chance to try and get ahead - which is of course harder when you now have more enemies to fight

Thanks to a disastrous raid on German Java I fell behind in victory points, so when Italy collapsed they simply withdrew from the war- once again keeping North Korea while Germany fought on. Then followed the German invasion of Japanese Borneo which after many months we defeated, and with the influx of forces released from the now dormant NEA theater were able to finally mount an invasion of Java in return. The battle began at sunset, so unfortunately it would be a harsh push through the night to get the transports to the beach, but it went well- 3 German BCs and a CA almost certainly sunk for only 3 torpedoes taken and no ships lost. But now dawn, and the danger returns. The damaged Battle line and Scouting Force could only withdraw at 12 knots, so the 8 carriers present would need to ensure their safety. In all the night's battle there had been nothing on radar that seemed like a carrier force, but I knew they had some in theater. Yet through all the press to the shore I'd surely have seen them. So, as dawn approached we warmed up 72 strike bombers to hit the Soerabaja airfield and the remaining 300 or so to be ready in case significant surface forces appeared. The scouts set out before twilight, and to our shock came the reports- Force 1 are our surface groups retiring northwards at 12 knots. Force 2 is the carrier group, and Force 3 are apparently 4 German carriers just 35nm to the south. Close enough that healthy BCs could close, but we have none of those. The next 90 minutes will be high tension...

A victory... ...but the cost. Over 250 aircraft, and 3 of the remaining 8 carriers lost. A strike on the German carriers was immediately launched, and then the ground attack force sent against Soerabaja. As it happens a second strike should have been launched, because almost 80% of the mortal damage was delivered to the fleet by the squadrons at that airbase, though Tjilatjap also made its contribution. Shokaku exploded just after 5, having suffered a slow leak in her lines from its torpedo hit at 2:25, and was abandoned without fanfare 53 minutes later as the fires only grew and grew. Germany's presence in SEA has been virtually eliminated, but clearly better protected carriers are needed soon.

Yes, it is really cool to have it in the game, even when it happens to you. :]
Well I averted a NEAR diplomatic disaster again, as my stupid submarines despite being told to respect prize rules kept sinking liners. France was a hair's breadth from joining Germany in the war, which wasn't even Germany's war to start with you remember, when I managed a compromise peace- however I had taken Java, so it was a net plus. I had taken Shanghai from the Italians too but the silly buggers rebelled just 3 months later, and swiftly.
So now I am trying to refit & modernize the fleet again before the next round of trouble starts!

Torpedo into AV Gas explosion hours later is awfully reminiscent of Taihou's fate, now that's something I can really look forward too when it happens ...

Hmm... So what happened to the RTW USA that couldn't project power anywhere but the Caribbean and North Atlantic.

The solution, my dear garrisonchisholm , is both simple and - if I may say - obvious. In our timeline, Theodore Roosevelt was a devoted naturalist and nature-lover from his youth. here, he developed his literary bent instead, focusing on the Romantic and the Gothic and poetry in particular: IE, Percy Bysshe Shelley and his circle. Shelley's love of Greece sparked British support for an independent Greek kingdom in our timeline; here, it is massive amounts of American aid, led by Theodore Roosevelt personally commanding his Rough Rider Expeditionary Force, that saves the Greek revolution. I leave it to you whether Roosevelt ever becomes President of the United States and/or King of Greece.

Well, the United States Navy is doing its best "Go ahead, sink them, there's 12 more on the way" on my Italy. They launched invasions of Dalmatia on two successive months, and I essentially sacrificed the fleet 2 months in a row to stave them off, and I had to take my 4 "bad" BCs and 4 remaining Bs out of mothballs just to break their blockade. And after those two months of battles - Perfectly timed for weather/darkness to avoid my preponderance of airpower - I am again under blockade. White Peace White Peace Talkin' 'bout that WHITE Peace...

And, 18 years later. Someone tell me how this is fair. (ok yes, I know, its not fair, but So Unique to see the USA acting this way!)

That is a considerable amount of freedom in such a small, cozy space I have to say.

Ah. A Target-Rich environment, I believe they call it.
Or a 'Friendly-poor-and-shrinking-by-the-minute' environment. Your mileage may vary.
I suppose there's no chance that a massive Italian Air Force will crush the invader beneath waves of explosive?

There are so many targets, it is difficult to miss.
