Yeah can we get a bit more info on the security?I don't want some sh**ty third party software on my PC which can potentially damage it like a certain piece of software protection is known to do.

you will only be able to play the game on a single PC at a time as the situation stands right now...
how exactly is that going to work?

Will the game unlock code (or however it's distributed) work on more than one device? This was never a problem for RTW as I only had one computer on which I played it. However, I'm going to university in the autumn and I don't want to have to buy it for both my home PC and my laptop.
Security for RTW2 will be increased over RTW1 (unfortunately due to significant pirating of RTW1) so you will only be able to play the game on a single PC at a time as the situation stands right now...
Does that mean that there can only be one copy of RTW2 on a device, effectively requiring modders to buy a second copy at full price?

I understand your concerns about piracy, but is it possible to transfer the account after it has already been set up? I'd be happy to request this specifically with the store. I loved playing RTW and planned to buy RTW 2 immediately but my game budget won't stretch to another £25 6 months afterwards.

"on a single PC at a time" sort of suggests something like what steam does; where you can download it to a dozen computers if you want, but only one can be "playing" it.
For my part I just want to confirm that this is what it is and that it does not, as the concerns above outline, prevent modding, require invasive program downloads, or re-downloading after a HDD crash etc

I assume you are speaking about something like 'StarForce' or similar software...no, its not the type of protection that requires root-drivers/or the like (I never liked those either).
I will shortly put up a Dev Post with details of how this works as far as RTW2 is concerned, stay tuned...thanks.

Thanks, looking forward to see...if tied to hardware in anyway (or license key based on hardware profile), I might be out of the running for the game. Can't imagine how else it would restrict to a specific PC but will wait to hear.

Will I be able to have the game installed on my desktop and laptop at the same time? I've read the post about anti-piracy measures but I still can't discern if I can have the game installed on two computers at the same time.

That is is pretty much what the anti-piracy system does. I am curious (and please don't feel obligated to answer if you do not wish to), why would this cause you to not purchase the game? Bear in mind that I am asking not to judge your decision, but to understand the 'whys' of it better, which may help us with future decisions on such matters.

That is a good question - right now we are looking at limiting to just a single machine at a time, but we will discuss (internally) the option to allow for 2 machines at a time...I cant make a promise either way right now. Thanks!

No problem answering. With today's PCs, various hardware and configuration change more often then in the past. People upgrade all the time nowadays, and don't like the hassle of having to reach out to companies to get new license keys and such. What if the company ever goes out of business and then my hardware changes? I am out of luck? Plus, based on other experience with other companies, there always appears to be countless problems getting it to work and requires too much effort. Don't get me wrong, I understand what your trying to do....but I just don't have time to worry about all these issues any more. Maybe your system will be flawless, but that hasn't been the experience elsewhere. To be honest I am surprised that a very niche game is pirated that much which would lead you to this decision...just feel you might also be losing some legitimate customers because of it.

Thanks! Atleast in my case, this would be a very welcome change. I do a lot of my gaming on a laptop due to work and travel, in addition to a desktop at home. As it stands I would have to get two keys or limit myself to playing it on one device.

Thanks for the feedback, we do appreciate you giving us a better understanding of the 'why' in your thoughts on this. We will keep the wrapper as non-restrictive as possible, while still allowing for it to do its job. Th system employed is rather reliable and simple, and should not cause any issues as far as getting it to work or affecting game-play.
Thanks again!

Thanks, but what happens if the company is no longer available to support the game and someone requires a new license key? I suspect you may indicate the copy protection would be removed in that case, but what if your not able because something significant has happened (especially with a small company)? What does the protection look at to judge if on a new PC? If I upgrade memory? Change or add a hard drive? Install a new Windows Update? etc. An no offense, I know the goal is not to cause issues...but when this stuff gets introduced, it does at times impact the paying legitimate customers. I know nothing I will state will change your mind and I suspect your OK with one potential customer not purchasing, but just wanting to make sure you had a point of view that may be shared by more people whether they post or not.....too bad since has been on my radar ever since announced.
