I think the engineers working on my latest design have invented a perpetual motion machine. Here's a design, for a simple corvette to fulfill an emergency TP need. View AttachmentNothing particularly interesting, right? Increased DC stowage, one 3" gun, 21kn. Well, now I'm going to make a single change: I'm going to increase the design speed to 22kn. View Attachment...And, somehow, that weighs less than it did for 21 kn. Quoi? Incidentally, I'm running with aquelarrefox 's 7sea modpack, which includes seawolf 's Realistic speeds mod, which may go some way towards explaining things. It looks like your ship´s shape is more suited more higher speed

Doing one of my extended games where I repeat every year five times. Am at war for 33 moths. Started the war with Italy, went on unrestricted submarine warfare. Every other nation eventually joins the war aon Italy's side, aghast at all the "sunk liners". Italy sues for separate peace. Britain is forced to leave the war due to internal upheavals (with me gaining some bases to further anti-USA ops). Italy reenters the war. Italy sues for peace again, this time no spoils since France joined the war the turn before, nulling VP's. Japan, USA and Soviet Union are seing unrest...
TLDR Italy is worse ally than enemy. Even worse, they may rejoin the war on your side multiple times!
Oh, and France has yet to offer battle. They are out of names for BB's, I have to sink some.

Looks historical to me!

Now, that's a strange (and small) design! It was shredded by my semi-BB but took quite a pounding despite its strangeness. You guys knowing all classes that were, was there such designs?

Sometimes they are much smaller, something like 6-7000t and 3x 9 or 10" guns

Oh my! That thing existed indeed! I thought the AI was being creative in designing a low cost-pocket B.

Admiral during the battle: "You useless ships, your shooting is terrible. I bet you didn't even scratch the paint! I'm having you all court-martialled when we get to Halifax!"
*Admiral reads post-battle intelligence reports*
Admiral: ...
Admiral: "Never doubted the fleet for a minute, sir. Thanks for the VC."
In this battle I did not see a single ship go down. I limped off to port at a maximum of 12 knots. And it wasn't even aircraft as the CVs were all put out of action by a lucky strike early on. I sank 10 BBs through progressive damage alone!

Sometimes, my genius it scares me ...
So I had just researched 3 centerline turrets, and it just occurredto me that guns at position 1,2,3 and 4 aren't centerline, so I decided to try this. I don't know if it will be a good design or not (low freeboard used as well to save armor) but I found quite funny that you can actually build "proper" battleships with just the 3 turret tech .

If its ugly and it works, it still works and its still ugly. And I may just go try it my current game. French with 14" turrets like that.

Tried out the single mount additions to the 3 centerline. 1908 didn't have enough dock yard size for doing it in 14 inch with the other necessary armor+speed. As a cruiser though it actually looks quite viable. The "Octave" manages a broadside of 8 of 8 inch guns for shooting at CA and CL. The secondary comes to a broadside of 8 of 5" for shooting DDs. Did decide to give it submerged torpedoes as it might get near slow moving B or early BB. Armor is meant for protection against 6" CL guns or medium range 8". A speed of 28 knots to lead destroyer charges or chase after raiders. Its 1908 design likely to launch 1911. As well as a hunter-killer it should do well leading in DD charges by driving off their DD and CL screen. As well as allowing an 8 gun main broadside earlier on it has the other important aspect of French designs of enough superstructure left for the ecole d'hotel.

Hmm, don't 5" guns suffer a -20 to hit penalty against small destroyers? At this point, 4" may be slightly more reliable for dealing damage. Edit: You know, sometimes you do get lucky with the first hit, not just of the battle but in this case of the war: Attachments:

Edit: You know, sometimes you do get lucky with the first hit, not just of the battle but in this case of the war: Note sure though the 5" have a moderately good rate of fire and for a DD pack a wallop. I had a chance to just watch a battle with my ships have 6 to 8 5" secondaries per side. I did see enemy DDs rapidly come to a crippled stop. Happened a few times. 4" guns do have a higher rof with slightly less punch per hit. Definitely a design choice. I was happy to see the enemy DD come in vroom, whap.... ooooooh.... whimper and finishing barrages.
