When reviewing the ship lists, in 'view data' you can cycle between 'game view' and 'picture', is picture view available and how do you insert images ?

In the ship design window, at the bottom you'll find a field and a button which will allow you to browse for a picture to associate with the edited ship design.

I have tried that, saved the design, but it still comes up with 'picture not available' and when I go back to the ship design panel 'picture name' is blank again. Using .jpeg images like the other images used in the game. Do the images have to be placed in the game files ?

... This option used to work in those glorious SAI days but I suppose it's still not activated in RTW. Asking for activating it again is one of my favourite "FAQs" - but so far other things had priority when it came to RTW updates.

Thanks, that explains things, which is a shame, because I have been working on profile images for the ships designed in the game. Hopefully it is a feature that will return.

I would love to see these missing images. Not so much missing images, but I thought that after designing new ships for the game, it would be nice to have a profile picture a bit better that the very basic 'game view'. All I was going to do was take existing ship profile drawing images and take out the main features, hull, turrets, mast and rearrange them to match the designs I had created in the game. Stretch the hull, re-arrange the components and so on. It's easy to assemble a graphic collection of ship bits from the internet to use in producing new profiles, but I don't know what that means for copyright, apart from for personal use in the game.

This is indeed a functionality that is left from SAI, and I assumed it would not be required in RTW, but if there is a strong demand, it would be fairly easy to restore this to working order.

Thanks for the response. The ship designs generated in RtW are likely to be unique and not represented by existing images, so I can see why this feature would be a low priority. Moving from the experience of SAI, I was experimenting with producing generic profile images that could be used to match the ships created in RtW, but would just be additional eye-candy. I don't know if images, or reconstructed images, from the internet could be shared and it might have limited appeal, however if it does not interfere with more important work, I could make use of the feature for ship pictures. I was developing a series of large CAs in RtW and using an internet profile of 'Georgios Averof' as a base, I was going to match the features of the ships as they were produced (adding turrets, funnels, etc.). Here is an extended hull, additional funnel version, waiting for the dock expansion and turret technology before adding guns, to become the Royal Navy's 1904 'Imperial' class CA/BCs . It's not too difficult to stretch the hull, copy elements of the turrets, cranes and fittings to create a profile to match the RtW designed vessels, as they might appear in the game, it is just nice to see something looking like the designed ships, but not essential.

I did actually consider generating the side views automatically, just like the top views, but I dropped that as too time consuming in relation to the benefit.

That would probability be going too far and only you can judge the priorities, but if RtW could have the same image functionality as SAI, it will be useful to some.

With or without such a solution it would be great, if the side view (generated or using a given pic) could appear permanently during battle in a little window (e.g. being an alternative to the top down view which is already on the map anyway).

Greets everyone! Just purchased this game and am waiting on the CD to arrive. This is my first post to the forum. I'm really looking forward to this game after watching The Historical Gamer's Let's Play video.
I have a question about ship pictures, though. So am I to understand that we can implement profle pictures of ships? And how large (pixel size) do the ship pictures need to be? I like to mess around with game graphics quite a bit and would like to maybe create a set of pictures for the various ships.
Thanks!
