So for example I would like to add something like this to the game, if possible, to spice things up a little.

Nice picture!
The size of the ship pictures in the game is 640 x 160 pixels.

Thanks, that was a question I was going to ask, if the feature was added to RtW.

... Would it be possible to increase it to 640 X 320? 160 is quite "flat" for some pics.

640 x 160 is actually more width than I need. Is it hard coded that pics must be that size or can we insert any size we want so long as it doesn't exceed the 640 x 160?
Thanks! Can't wait to receive my copy of RTW.

Great to see you here! It really is a great game. There is a lot going on under the hood. And the replay value is also good, since you gave different nations, can try different designs, and the decisions you need to make a different every time. Up till now, no two games are alike. I can only recommend it. I also came across it via the Matrix forum,. I read something there regarding SAI ( Steam and Iron) visited this forum and came across this gem.

You can use smaller pics, but then they will appear... smaller...:-).
Just curious, how are you generating the pictures?
Edit: But the pics you posted above are 640 x 160, and look very good!

Well dang, as if this game didn't steal enough of my time, now it makes me move around shipbucket pieces, trying to figure out what my ships would look like

My first step was to create some basic "components" such as a life boat, superstructure, funnels, bow, stern, hull, turrets, etc. Then I just piece them together in different ways to create different ships.
I created a little template of pieces, attached (which others are welcome to use if they like). I simply use MS Paint to piece them together. Would be cool if something similar could be implemented into the game where an image is automatically generated based upon a ship's design.

Doing the same process with outline profiles, taking elements out of existing images, to reassemble to fit the features of the designed ships.
Gary's solution is very elegant as the components fit together very well, the outline style of images need some editing to fit together neatly.
The look and colour of the components could be adjusted to match national building styles and appearance.
I think we will need the full width of the image, as you move to the super ship designs possible later in the game and hull length increases.

Here is my 'Imperial' class CA/BC in RN service from 1904, seen in SAI fresh from victory at the Falklands, where two of these ships were present, albeit down to less than 15% in the magazines at the end. Made some small image changes, added belt armour, changed the funnels slightly, colour tones for RN, but it is easy to have a whole series of components adapted for any particular 'look'. Thanks Gary, nice work, it brings building you're own ships into a new context, can't wait to see profile images in RtW.

These are great! Do you mind if I take these and play with them (color/shade, shaping, etc) to build a new family? I'll share whatever I come up with.
