What massive and magnificent battles! It is such a shame that in a 2v2 war like this, territory cannot be handed off to an ally. In real life, Japan would have gotten Port Arthur and North Sakhalin at the peace table or broken the alliance with Britain in outrage.

Yes, it would be nice if the game could handle that better. I could gift them something in the edit? I don't actually know if allies share in the "Post war reparations" bonus? This is the first time I've ever done something narrative like an AAR and I found it fun to do. I wrote the battle descriptions as I went along, pausing the game occasionally and taking screenshots, so I didn't know how they were going to turn out either. I liked the live narrative personally too so I may do another at some point? I'm currently taking those ship lists for the AI to pick from.

It would be interesting to go back a bit earlier, don’t you think, and build , HMS Victoria, Sans Pariel and Camperdoen etc . Now that would be something.

The coming "Ironclads to Exocets" (?) expansion is supposed to start in 1890 I believe so nearly there. The problem though will be how THAT treats the mass of pre-game warships? In 1890 there are masses of Steam and sail stuff around that make up a great deal of everyone's navies! Personally I'd think they'd have more luck with an 1860 start? Proper"Ironclads" stuff!

The problem then is how do you adequately represent wooden hulled sailing ships in the game? There’s a lot more of them in most national navies in the 1860s than the 1890s.

There's a lot of stuff with auxiliary sailing rig in 1890, the earlier (pre-Triple Expansion) engines were not very fuel efficient so most ships with ambitions of deep sea use had at least two masts rigged. The USN has barely any modern ships at all and Germany's Battle-line is basically a coast defence force. Only France and Britain really have significant oceanic forces at all. (of course 1860 is similar but there's a possibility that the US/CS war navies could emerge as something interesting?
