RtW 1.26 beta 2 has been posted as a public beta in the Information and Downloads thread. Among other things it fixes some bugs recently reported on the forum and includes some user suggestions.

I've just had a convoy defense mission in which the convoy started out of sight. Based on the after-action tracks, it seems to have been half way between my fleet and the opposing fleet, each separated by about a full line of latitude (iirc each displayed line is one degree). Is this intended behavior? I'd never seen that before this beta patch, but then again I haven't tested the game as thoroughly as a lot of players. I can provide before and after turn saves if useful, but not an in-battle save.

What nation were you playing and who was the enemy?

What nation were you playing and who was the enemy? I was playing as the United States; the enemy was Great Britain. The engagement took place in North American East Coast near Cape Hatteras. I believe battle size was "1"; there were a number of dreadnoughts and battlecruisers on both sides.

Reason I was asking, is that you can use the BCWarEditor to look at the initial setup for that battle. The app should be in your RTW file. Set the two nations then page through the missions to find Convoy Defense. BE CAREFUL not to save anything!
Almost all combat missions have randomized positions for initial setups (along the line or, in some cases, inside a circle) so it is possible - but rare - for combatants to be a long way apart.
After looking through the missions, I'm just not sure. Maybe this is one of the ones the computer assigns randomly. Sorry I couldn't be more help - but looking through the WarEditor should give you some insights as to how the missions are built.

Thanks for the tip. I did check through BCWarEditor, selecting USA as the player nation and Great Britain as the opponent, but was unable to find either a convoy defense or a battle in the same general area (north of Florida but south of Massachusetts), leading me to believe this mission must be stored elsewhere somehow.
Do note that my worry isn't that my fleet started far from the opponent—it's that my fleet started over the horizon from my own convoy. That's the first time I've seen that particular occurrence.

Especially with night actions, or in limited visibility, I've had convoy defense missions where I never even spotted the convoy.
As I understand it, missions that aren't in the War file are created by the game on the fly.

I'm in the midst of what appears to be another similar convoy defense as Germany against France. This time I have a screenshot to attach: Attachment DeletedIn this image, you can see my fleet is quite far from the convoy it's supposed to be defending. I have my cursor over the Merchant Division flag, so the distance indicator tells me it's still 90 nautical miles away after more than an hour of sailing. Meanwhile, the French ships, according to the sighting and combat reports, are already in contact. It's certainly possible that this is intended, but it does seem off to me, which is why I ask. If you look at the OB, it doesn't seem to be displaying correctly, either. Note that my convoy is listed twice and is ascribed to France for some reason. Within each convoy force, the escorting Destroyer Division is also doubled, so that it is listed four times in total. I have an in-battle save available if that would be useful.

I can corroborate the Convoy spawn issue. The Convoy has been popping up between the defending and attacking fleets at great distance, which makes it impossible for the defenders to get there in time and actually stop the attackers from wrecking the Convoy and escaping.

Fredrik will be away for ~ the next 2 weeks, but after he returns I will make sure he sees this thread/reported issue.
Thanks!

Just started playing yesterday, encountered some weird situations, don't see a bug report post so I just post here. Have 12 DDs in building queue but still failed the mission. Set the fleet to AI and independent, they went south and stuck at this V shaped trap and keep running in circles. As you can see, the B group is not AI control and the DDs follow the B group so it can be my fault (or they fell out of the formation because of flooding). But it would be nice if ships can navigate along the coast and mine field. Not sure what this means, bugged message I guess. The second time I run into this situation. Too deep in the minefield to light it.

The empty box arises when a ship that is already sinking suffered a critical hit.

I only count 10 DDs. Did you complete some before the check? the check is pretty literal, at the time of the check you need to be building 12 DDs.
