I have only found this now, but I might be interested in entering the next design competition. And also for RTW2 when it comes out. It's great reading this stuff.

I have only found this now, but I might be interested in entering the next design competition. And also for RTW2 when it comes out. It's great reading this stuff. You can propose designs for this light cruiser competition, it has been not closed yet. I do not have time to play this right know, I will continue on 4th of May so you have time to propose designs.

I didn't really have the time to read back all the pages and get a good feel for the doctrine and design philosophy, so I'm going just off the "reasonable costs, fight other cruisers". So here goes. Cyanide Shipyards present three light cruiser designs: Project CY C1: This design is armed with 8 6in guns in shielded mounts, placed so that 7 can fire broadside. Armor to protect against 6in fire was deemed to heavy for a crusier of its displacement, so instead and AoN armor design with 2 inch belt was chosen, which should offer protection from long range 4in and 5in fire - both common calibers found on foreign destroyers and light cruiser. A speed of 29 knots allows it to outpace every foreign cruiser design except for German Gazelle class, which it can amtch in speed, but surpasses in armament. Additionally C1 is armed with 2 twin torpedo launchers lcoated above water, which allows them to be fired at full speed. Project CY C2:
Slightly heavier than the C1, the C2 is equipped with slightly heavier armor, and 6 6in guns, all of which can be fired broadside. The guns themselves are mounted in fully enclosed and armored turrets, which should protect the guncrews from splinters and minimize the chances of losing a turret. Similarly to C1, the armor layout is AoN, and the top speed is 29 knots. The design philosophy of this variant is to outlast enemy CLs in a prolonged fight.
Project CY C4:
This one make look wierd at first glance, but that is part of it's charm. The superstructure layout is a result of perhaps slightly unorthodox layout of main battery, consisting of 8 6in guns, all of which can be fired broadside. This is also the smallest and cheapset of the three designs - an economic option that still outguns foreign cruisers and doesn't sacrifice much protection. It is also equipped with two twin torpedo launchers.

Congratulation Cyanide Shipyards for awarding design C4.Runner up: Persephone A, Persephone C Curacoa, Nike, Spitfire: all these three designs are very powerful but just too costly compare to other designs and most powerful foreign design has only broadside of 5x6" guns C2 version: just too small firepower C1 version: a little worse than C4 Persephone B: a little worse than C4 Persephone A: Very good, however a little more powerfull C4 design was chosen Persephone C: a little worse as have no torpedo tubes, less firepower and a little less armour on shields for guns

NOVEMBER 1921COMPETITION 1921/16/BB - 2 fast battleships- all forward guns allowed - min. speed of 25 knots GENERAL CONDITIONS:- any shipyard can provide up to 2 designs- any shipyard will provide design picture and design file (*.40d) - any shipyard are recommended to provide explanation of design futures Evaluation will be done based on overall firepower, protection, speed and costs. Balanced design are preferred. Deadline for proposals - the 7th of May however I close the competition as soon as I get your designs. If you need more time, just mentioned it. note for calculation of broadside (b) and turret firepower (f) f1, f2, f3, f4 ... turrets firepower b = f1+f2+f3+f4 fi = q * k * n * c ^ 3 for each turret n ... number of guns in turret c ... guns caliber k = 1 for double turret, k = 0.95 for triple turret q = 1 for Q0 guns, 0.9 for Q-1 guns, 1.1 for Q+1 guns

Balsa Construction is pleased to present for the Admiralty's consideration the following pair of fast battleship designs: 1921/16/BB.1: Queen Mary Queen Mary carries a powerful main battery of eight 16" guns in two quadruple turrets, one forward and one aft, which would make her the most powerfully armed battleship in the world. A secondary battery of eighteen 5" guns in three triple turrets provides defense against destroyers and other light warships while a design speed of 25 knots and the same underwater protection system as used on Queen Elizabeth safeguard the ship against torpedo attack.
1921/16/BB.2: Admiral Hood Admiral Hood improves upon the armor protection of Queen Elizabeth while maintaining the armament by mounting eight 15" guns in two quadruple turrets forward of the superstructure.

Do you know that quadruple turrets has reliability issues? I do forget to put it formula but I cannot take it as they are completely reliable.

I am aware of that, yes, but in my experience the reliability issues are not much of an issue. Nevertheless, if you would prefer, I will redesign the proposals to use triple or twin turrets.

I willl do it differently. I will state that coefficient for quadruple turrets will be 0.9 taking into considaration realiability, higher risk of one turret disabled by hit etc. and let you decide about desing.

Beardmore Shipbuilding is proud to present two BB designs:
BB-Phaeton A lot of firepower (especially against contemporary foreign armour designs) for a low price, with decent armour against contemporary foreign designs and their 14'' guns. The improved 6'' guns have excellent range and discourage enemy DDs early on in potential attack runs.
BB-Phobos Bigger guns in more reliable triple turrets, thicker armour and increased speed a the expense of three guns.
