So Italy started a war with me in 1891, which was a bad move on 2 parts. First I had a hefty 50% tonnage and ship advantage, which is pretty normal in a 1890 start. But second, their entire pre-generated battleline was built in French shipyards, 7 already built and 3 more still building in my yards, which I promptly seized once they declared war.
Any suggestions for names? I'm thinking I may go with the 3 large Mediterranean islands Corsica, Sardinia, and Sicilia if I manage to seize the 2 Italian ones in this war (I do lower all possessions values to be below 10 so Sicily is invadable)
This is hi-Larious!

I have had my share of embarrassing defeats for sure, but having just achieved my all-time highest battle score I'll bend to vanity and share it.
This must have been an important convoy, heading to resupply the besieged grenadiers of New Brunswick, because it was defended by half of England's fleet.
Bunker Hill succumbed to fire at the end of the day, or Independence (BC) would have been the only major loss. The battle had my Scouting Force dive into the convoy only to discover the size of the opposition. Independence was lost when a bridge hit left it unsteered as the division turned about to escape. She went down fighting though, absorbing several hundred shells and blowing up a British battleship.
I thought my airstrikes were going to be for naught when it started raining right after launch, but about 20 minutes after they started their search pattern over the English fleet the weather broke.

...& yes, I too just noticed that the captain's name is Kirk.
...I have to transfer him to the Enterprise, don't I.
mmm. ... after the war, the Enterprise's captain is Above Average and Lucky, and I don't know anything about Kirk yet.
Kirk became Captain of the Enterprise after the previous commander was mutilated in a horrible accident. Need an "accident" to happen to the current one. A very convenient accident.
February, 1937. After an unfortunate and tragic ... laundry accident, the USS Enterprise has had a new commander appointed. ...& I am glad he is no longer stationed on a ship with large caliber magazines that will offend his need for rapid firing.

Just for conversation, these are my early-game "super cruisers" from my current work with the USA. They use the Brandenburg rule regarding -2 quality guns which allow a 3rd turret. When they were launched they could make 23 knots and their BE is 3" while Upper Belt is also 6". They gave excellent service, and are still providing anti-raider work. Yes, a -2q gun is horrible penetrating, but the charge is still large enough to hurt.

Well, I will simply say Thank you. This to me was the most creative and invested story-project we ever had, and I remember with great glee the hope of finding the next update- and of course thank-you again for your 3d model of the Admiral Wir, which still exists on a laptop packed away somewhere. I hope the qualities of your years improves good sir! My '22 was extremely similar to yours in that I too lost my mom to cancer, and it seems somewhat a farce that life expects "well its not '23 anymore, you had a year, so function!" when I know I had so many things that I simply never had the time to deal with. But I hope and pray we'll all improve in time. When you get your affairs in the order you desire I would definitely recommend a display case for those models, they will assuredly always start pleasant conversations.

Very nice of my allies to send support to the Irish Sea...
...and to be willing to collect 100 tons of Englishmen on an 800 ton ship.

It is a 9000 ton protected cruiser, but still, the quartermaster must have had a busy night.

Alternatively, my favorite night battle is a night battle I don't fight. They always seem like my ships are torpedo practice for the enemy. I make it a rule of thumb to decline all night actions, however I have to, to avoid handing out VPs. Is there a way to see what time of day the battle is fought at? I haven't found a way to tell when I get the opportunity to decline. No, there is not- at present the game presumes that you might know the position and disposition of an enemy force but cannot be sure of when you might encounter them. I was simply stating that I frequently "Bravely Ran Away", whenever I conclude that night would be the time of any action.

My early move that sets me up for easy victories is to have a single division of very large and fast cruisers, hopefully by 1896. They sweep the field in cruiser engagements as their speed and "hull points" are a thing that the AI can't match with legacy designs. I don't consider them useless until 1925-ish. I would call a good CA critical in the early period, and secondly a similar CL.

NECRO. ...but I'm a Dev, so I'm allowing myself.
Just wanted to say I hope there's a chance of this AAR being resurrected or at least reincarnated in 2024!

Yes, a disarmament treaty was just signed- but still, I've never seen this in 6 1/2 years of this game.
