If we ever 'close up shop' for some reason our general intent is that the DRM would be deactivated from any games that need it.
Note: We have no plans to 'close up shop' anytime soon (or even later for that matter), but if some unforeseen calamity (or miraculous windfall) besets us the above would be applicable.
Thanks!

My intention was to purchase it on 25th. With the DRM debacle probably I will wait a couple of days to see how it is working.

Probably on the first day! Especially after I tried to get Mass Effect 2 DLC bundle to finalize my ME collection and learned I can't use my paypal balance to purchase on Origin. You can use Credit Card or Credit Card through paypal

How many people will have the power to disable said DRM, in the event some calamity befalls one of the devs? I assume at least two (you and chris) but is there more; and are you guys physically separated from one another (IE live in different states)

Hey! I decide to go offline for Easter and this happens...
The DRM thread was locked before I ever saw anything on the topic.
That said, let me chime in with what I consider an answer to the question posed in that thread that creates effectively the same customer experience as in RTW for RTW2 with enhanced "non-honor-code" anti-piracy effect: patch! patch! patch! RTW did improve pretty regularly over the course of its lifetime and it was only since RTW2 development got "hot" that this effectively ceased. If/when the game is regularly patched with new bugfixes/features etc. any pirate can be excluded from the full experience: We anyways have to be online to download patches and an online serial code check upon original installation and installation of any new patch would not add to the hassle at all. In RTW we entered the serial code "offline" to install the patches, if this was done online for RTW2 (with a NWS server check) you could monitor for "abusive" serial codes, notify the customer per e-mail and disable the code set for future installs/patches in case that is the approbriate reaction to a proven violation of the EULA. No need to do a manual or automatic additional code exchange, just make the "abusive" threshold clear in the EULA and provide a customer service option for legitimate customers somehow caught by this (e.g. someone who does "too many" installs due to PC upgrading/repair). And have some of the more active lets-players on youtube highlight the new features post-patch so everyone gets the message that you should be a paying customer to get the full experience.
Oh, and BTW, even though I am apprehensive about the new DRM system and consider this a misguided decision by NWS I will nevertheless strive to do a first day buy, might not make it due to work though. Would also like to know how the change-over within the 2 parallel installs will work as my travel tablet/laptop's CPU is rather anemic and cannot run RTW at max time acceleration, so I will likely replace it later this year.

At the risk of beating a dead horse, I think the old thread got sidetracked because there are number of folks opposed to DRM on an ideological, moral, or ethical level while there are those who are as opposed to outright piracy on a similarly strong ideological, moral, or ethical level. None of those people are ever going to 'convince' the other 'side', both 'sides' are entrenched in their views, and can only share said views. Stuck between there are a number of people who have varying degrees of concern and varying willingnesses to listen. I think overall that the dev team has done a good job at listening to those people; but said people are always at risk of being drowned out by the chorus of those with minds already made up.

You can use Credit Card or Credit Card through paypal I've used my paypal balance to buy things from Origin? Possibly you have credit card already attached to paypal account? I don't, so origin wants me to link credit card, ignoring the fact I have enough money on balance.

Nope. no idea. If you still can't (and please do try first) PM me and maybe we can work out what our two accounts have that are different.

So the new release date is 17th May? I was going to buy it on release. The DRM thing has curbed my enthusiasm and I will wait to see how it works in practice. Either way I'm sure RTW 2 will be pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty good. (apologies to Larry David).
