My Germany promoting a new war with France. We had one with them a few years ago without being able to take Norway and we still want that northern land.
Its 1949 Disperse my 3 CVLs of 44 planes to colonials. These were the aviation ship conversions.
CVs proper massed in Northern Europe to fight France and try again to get Norway.
War starts... cruiser battle ... France declines convoy battle ... France declines Fleet Battle ... France accepts!
So what does my 1949 Germany bring into the fight?
Well 6 CVs with a total airplane capacity of 552. Over half a thousand carrier planes!
HAA HA HAAA
Hey Frenchie!
We ready!
You can have your eclairs in the shade! Our planes will blot out the sun for you!

Strategy at it's finest. How can your ships get sunk if they never get wet?

Fleet battle, started in deep night, my 6 Carriers facing a still mighty British Fleet. Alas no airplanes can launch due to low clouds. The last carrier battle massacred 3/4th of our air groups and took 2 months of refusing battle to get to 90%+ planes on carriers. This... Oh Happy Day A cheer from the Bismark as it closes on the Britsh CV force, who like mine still cant launch planes. Thats the coast of iceland pinning them in.

5 BBs vs 4 CVs and a CVL at point-blank range? That's gonna hurt...

Can't decide what's more impressive: Hitting a 500t DD with a 13" shell Said 13" shell only damaging the superstructure and not the hull. Attachments:

To be fair, id did also knock out a secondary and the only primary gun. But, yeah, I get what you mean. Still, I'd rather see: 13" 7724 yds superstructure hit* Main gun crews cut down by splinters SEC* secondary guns knocked out by splinters than: 13" 7724 yds superstructure hit

Just finished a mid-1930s battle. Germany wanted to invade American-owned Iceland. Germany has no airbases nearby and just two CVLs for cover, but they did bring 5 BCs and 4 BBs. My airbase has 16 flying boats, 16 torpedo planes, 16 medium bombers, 12 dive bombers. I had moved a major part of my battle line to Iceland and expected a surface battle but the mission generator decided to give me my 5 CVs (one with 64 and the other four with 80 AC, using a standard setup of two fighter, two DB, one TB squadrons of 16 planes each. The 64-plane 'Wright' has two fighter, one DB and one TB squadrons). Of course, the weather immediately turned foul and the sea-state came up, prohibiting air ops until night falls. I have played this game before and I had nothing on-hand bigger than a CA, so I steamed NW and SW during the night (wind was from the SSW, then SSE). Come daybreak my CAs launched floatplanes (all-forward design with 6 floatplanes) and planes from Reykjavik found the enemy - right on the beach, headed west toward me. Full strikes followed, co-ordinated by carrier. Enemy strikes ran into my 150 fighters and my just-updated 4" and 5" DP AA. They got no hits of any kind; I sank 3 BC, 1 BB (he took 14 bombs and 16 torpedoes... pilots, LOL), 1 CVL damaged and a couple of transports sunk. The invasion does NOT go ahead... and I imagine there is quite a meeting in Berlin. I'd have launched follow-on strikes but the battle got called at that point. I love it when I get the chance to show off how my building strategy works with my tactical and operational plans. Let Germany break her teeth on Iceland LOL. Prior experience with aviation was mixed - in the last war my battle fleet was able to cover landings in Cuba, with four ships taking damage, and my two CVLs couldn't take down the Guantanamo airfield. Nobody else has more than a couple of CVLs on hand, and I'm completing 80-plane CVs' Essex' and 'Bunker Hill', so I believe I'm in a good place for the next decade. Of course, my lack of armor means I'm going to lose carriers when someone 'does' push a strike home, but that's the chance I opted to take.

This is a weird battle. The main bug is that of the origibal formation lead of 2 B types, 1 is sunk and 1 is sinking. I moved leadership to the CVL but that wasnt letting me gather up the scrattered DDs. I used the forced leadership change and it offered up the CL group. The error message is about the CVL not being able to figure out its "stance". Which given the situation I'd be pretty confused if I was that Captain. The background is that air planes recently came about. I converted half my pre dreadnought B to 24 plane CVL so Id have room for a 16 plane attack squadron and 8 plane escort... but we dont have attack planes yet so its all biplane fighters without bomb ability. Still a wonderful swarm for air recon. The other half of the B force was converted from 2 of 2 gun 12" game start turrets to 2 of 1 gun 16" modern turrets. LAA just became available a few months ago. War tensions were at 80%. So I decided to bring it ALL my BB, BC, CA major ships some of which took tweaking their secondary guns down to have weight and that may have delayed them an extra month. War started with my BB, BC, and CA major forces STILL in refit. For one month the USA is dependenat on the ~80 submarine force, 2100 ton light cruiser raiders, 2000 ton Aviation Raiders and these 16" B and B-CVL refits. The >communist< British have pushed to get onto a Caribeaan island perhaps for later "long range" flying objects. It was 2 of these 16"-B and a Ftr only B-CVL, 2 Light Cruiser anti destroyers and mix of DDs that went to stop the invasion. We hoped to do the first air strike as each 16"-B has a flight of 4 floatplanes with 250 lb bombs for an 8 plane bomber formation! Hooray we thought. That didnt happen. Night came on and we got news of the landing starting. Air planes from shore had estimated their landing point but we went to the east side of the bay and they landed in the west. So here you see the carnage of the communist British troop transports sinking and burning with their Battlcruiser... proper Battlecruiser... and destroyers having sunk our "hunchback" 16"-B mostly with torpedoes as our CVL bravely, with its pre-dreadnought 10" belt armor, took on command to use its side guns on the last transports. The CVL took a torpedo hit which its bulge refits are still leaking in from. Now the hope is to have the anti-destroyer light cruisers keep away their torpedo damaged full Battlecruiser while we escape this coastal night action. So yeah... Im can see the carrier Captain wondering what they *@#(@* he is doing here and how did his life come to this.

<insert Whiskey guy meme> I don't always defend Malta for night time invasion fleets... but when I do 25 destroyers on patrol are nice to have.
