You can reload your start-of-battle autosave as long as you haven't exited the battle. That's dependent on autosave settings.

Save the game at the start of the battle - copy the save if jt turns out to be a good one. You can reload your start-of-battle autosave as long as you haven't exited the battle. Oh, we're talking about save-scumming.

Well, it can be used for scumming, yes.
But to me, scumming is reloading when an event you don't like occurs - for example, a battleship getting torpedoed. It's quite possible to abuse the save system without copying the save!
But for those of us that came through games whereby 1 mistake would force you to restart, despite being 75%+ of the way through the game...

As a role-player from the olden days (The Bard's Tale, Pool of Radiance, Wasteland,...), I still live by the role-player's mantra: Save early, save often

When it's 1920, and you unlock 18"-1 guns, instead of the 15"-1s you were rocking. "Eh, why not..we're still sort of armored against 14" guns...and speed isn't that important..." Attachments:

When you've got guns that size, no one is going to find armoring their ships against you an easy task. And if the armor is up to the task, the speed and firepower probably aren't.

It's frustrating when a flooding, stationary ship rejoins its squadron and proceeds to sink itself. It's frustrating when a single, flooding, stationary ship all of a sudden decides to go full steam ahead and sinks itself.
Today I had a combination. I was trying to save a 75% damaged and flooding destroyer and stopped its squadron. Then, suddenly, the flooding destroyer detached itself from its squadron and proceeded full steam ahead to port, and sunk itself. Combined, it's sort of amusing. Either the commander had a death wish, or they thought similarly to how I think when I am running low on gas on a highway: "if I get to port faster, I can be repaired faster!" Much like how when I am running low on gas I get an urge to speed up so I can get to a gas station faster.

Killed off a 1920's era heavy cruiser with 1903 AC. Turns out that 4in of turret armor isn't enough to stop a 7in shell a decent ranges. Who knew?

Not quite sure what the Captain of HMS Sheldrake was thinking. Granted, Brennus had previously run down HMS Redpole but was this really necessary? View AttachmentBut wait! That's not all of it. Checking the log of the Brennus: View AttachmentHe's only gone and sunk a 13,800t B with a 600t DD by ramming! How do you get these more detailed reports? Thanks.

This happened on the same turn: "SS Topaze has torpedoed and damaged an Italian CVL." "CVL Dixmude has been torpedoed and damaged by an enemy sub." My favorite part is that both of Italy's carriers were being repaired at the time.

Right-click the ship on the map, then click "Log Entries." You can also access it in the post-battle results by going into the ship list and double-clicking an entry.
