I will play as the UK in my first game and just like the name of the game and the lyrics of the national anthem of the UK my aim will be to ensure Britannia rules the waves by maintaining and expanding her empire.
Starting in 1920 I will focus on carriers and fast BBs and BCs to complement them. Speed will be a priority as will CV/CVL a/c capacity.

I’d really like to get to the 50’s as the soviets. Granted, land-based air and missiles will probably be later additions, from what I’ve read.

Well. I'll be playing as japan. capturing a territory with oil is a much higher priority here than it was in rtw1. Sadly I think the only real option there is expanding into the indian ocean and taking Burma. Not sure the best way to go about that, and would love to hear suggestions. Probably an early war with france to grab a possession, and build up a base? Then again, the UK is gonna have much better basing there regardless. It would be a very fierce fight.
Moving on to later strategy, I'm planning on having all my CA's have floatplanes, at least one or two, as well as possibly my CL's, assuming I can fit it. It wouldn't surprise me if it helped them get more raiding encounters, sort of like long range helps. In fact I'm very interested in my cruiser force for this game. I'm probably going to start with olympia style protected cruisers. Big, with four eight inch guns, and decent armor. And then move slowly into more fleet support oriented ones. I might make a second line specifically geared towards trade protection as well. And I'm hoping to keep building CA's all throguh this game which is something I don't think I've ever done.
Moving on to capitals. of course I gotta play around with aircraft carriers. I'll ofc make some battleships and battlecruisers, but probably much less than I normally would. I'm planning to lean towards fast battleships, rather than battlecruisers.
Now then, if I can secure Burma, that means that I should be trying to strengthen my hold in the indian ocean, as well as southeast asia. That'll no doubt keep me busy for a lot of years, maybe into the thirties, at which point I can weight my options for other things, like scraps with the US or such. I don't really know where im gonna go from there.

It really will be interesting to see how much better raiding vessels will be with catapult scouts aboard. Creating the smallest, fastest, and longest range CLs with a catapult aboard while still being a semi viable combatant will be an interesting design challenge. Likewise AMCs with Float Scouts aboard could be pretty awesome too. I think one of my early games as Japan will focus all cruiser production on such vessels. I'll have to focus on big DDs as Capital escorts in turn with small KE as ASW/Convoy workers. And while I like Tone style CAs I don't think i'll make any. I want to see if fast AVs can fill the roll of Task Group scout platform for cheaper than a similar CA would. |

I'd be happy with any of them, although I quite like playing as the UK, as you get a budget large enough to go crazy trying things, but have to contend with a much wider range of responsibilities than the US (the other big-budget monster). That said, I'll be super-happy playing anyone really  . Strategy-wise, no idea, might depend on which designs are my favourite after I've made 'em. I likes cruisers, so plenty of them at least. |

I plan to play Germany. I wish to expand my overseas territories, either via france or Japan. Therefore I expect plenty of Open seas engagements, and will be using carriers more than historical Germany. I also plan to have a fast battlefleet, capable of long range travel so as not to be caught off guard with my pants down. With any luck I can make Britain my Ally and take either Russia or France's pacific bases to use as my main stations in the battle against Japan.

Out of patriotic duty, I play mainly as Britain. They have the best budget and provided you have a logical system, the foreign station rotation isn't too bad.

I will play as France. By early defeating of Russia (and maybe even Japan), I may be rich and powerful enough to beat Germans and then just win some wars to prepare for the grand war with Great Britain.

I love floatplanes on cruisers, but just one or two :3 And yeah, I think making a raiding CL with a floatplane really will be a challenge. I hadn't thought of AMC's with floatplanes tho, not a bad idea. I have a feeling that it might take a while to get DD's that can be effective capital escorts though, since you need a tech to fit them with DP main batteries. I think thats true of CL's too though... I'm curious, what do you think of making dedicated DE's? My logic is that, while KE's and AMC's can be made pretty quickly since they get scrapped after the war, its good to have a stock of ASW ships right from the onset. especially since they would have minesweeping and ASW capabilities. |
