an updated feature-catalog would be nice ...
since the announcement regarding the publisher, communication about the new version/game is kind of lacking sadly -.-

Starting sometime this coming month (IIRC) Matrix should be pushing out preview material for the game showcasing newer features, etc.

Are there any plans to allow players to modify the design of ships while under construction? Obviously there would need to be limitations to the changes that can be made, probably depending on how much of a delay you are willing to accept and the state of the ship's construction. This already occurs in a very limited way with rangefinders, but there really needs to be more options open to us. Modifications happen to nearly every ship during construction in real life, yet in RTW 2 we can't touch the design until the ship is complete.

Does anyone else think that it might be nice to be able to build big, proper CA's with 9+ 11 or 12in guns? As things currently stand, they are restricted to 10in and smaller, along with 20k ton limit. There are the two minor exceptions, but those only really matter earlier in the game, where as I would like to be allowed to build larger ships in the late '20s and onward. You can just build small BC's, but by the time you might wish to build a 22,000 ton cruiser with 9 12in, battlecruisers have really moved onwards and upwards. Putting a 20ish thousand ton ship up against 40,000 ton BC with 15 or 16in guns isn't really a fair fight by any metric.
Also, something I just noticed: Why are there no aft mounts for catapults? With how common it was, it rather shocked me that it isn't an option.

Catapults use the weapon mount points to indicate their position on a ship in RTW 2. I believe this was done to simplify coding for catapults instead of using a whole new system.
I'n not sure about the current RTW 3 but IIRC you can mount catapults to the #3 and #4 positions in RTW 2. Those positions correspond to the two rear gun mounts at the aft end of the ship and can be thought of being mounted on the aft end of the ship like on the Iowa class. You can also mount a catapult in the Y weapon mount if you want a centerline aft catapult, but you will need to sacrifice placing any weapons in that position to do so.

Well, given that the game seems to treat CAs and BCs fairly interchangeably you can just build them, call them "Big Cruisers" or whatever and send them forth! (You could edit the save-file I suppose?)

Not sure, I mostly play Fleet Size 12 and they basically seem to gradually replaced by BCs, at least amongst the AI navies?

Well, in the 1952 Japan game I finished last year, most nations have similar numbers of both types. In a 1951 German game with slow tech, again they seem to be about as common as BCs.

TL;DR I wanted to split Protected cruisers (C) from Light Cruisers (CL) in the same vane as Pre-dreadnought (B) and Dreadnought Battleships (BB). Separate Heavy Cruisers (CA) from Armored Cruisers (AC) to better distinguish them as an outgrowth of Light Cruisers. And finally have Large Armored Cruisers as either a tech to eliminate the tonnage, #of guns, armor, and speed limitations of the Deutschland and Tsukaba style cruiser rules or as a new categorization (CC) to represent Dunkerque, Alaska, and Scharnhorst style 2nd rate Battleships/Battlecruisers or 1st rate Supercruisers as I argue they are more equivalent to ACs in comparison to Bs than they are BCs to BBs.

Not being around the game at the time, I wasn't aware of your suggestion, but I think it's a pretty reasonable and well thought out idea. I don't think the CC designation is necessary, but I also wasn't thinking about ships in the 25k and up range. I think ships that big could go into the BC slot comfortably, but AC is also an option for them. I'd honestly support getting rid of CA as a category all together, and just fold them into CL's. Only issue is that it was a thing historically, and not having it might be a bit weird. I doubt that such sweeping changes to the game's classification system would be made at this point, and if your idea wasn't taken up back when the new stuff was still in early development, I can't see it being adopted. Still a nice thing to put up though, and maybe it will be possible in the future.

It is not clear to me what benefit would be gained from building large expensive heavy cruisers. Just to fight opposing CA counterparts? I don't have much experience with this, but I remember that in a game with my BCs I exterminated a number of enemy big CAs, which only managed to sink some of my raiders.

To be fair, I don't think they are great ships when it comes to fighting battles, the main appeal is their realistic role of trade protection and raiding, with a little bit of fighting oomph thrown on top.

Historically, the post Dreadnought "Heavy/Armoured Cruiser" is almost entirely a child of the Washington Treaty environment. A few minor navies built them, as being the strongest thing they could afford I presume, but aside from evolutionary "Trade/Imperial Defence" cruisers (Hawkins class etc?) they are rather pointless...especially in RTWs world of Battlecruiser Swarms!

I wouldn't go so far as to call them pointless, only slightly too restricted. If the limit was 12000 tons, I think most nations would have been able to build a decent 8in cruiser, its just very difficult to do on 10k.
