I guess the Royal Hawaiian Navy's third class cruisers must be really good at pretending to be something bigger, because one of them just thwarted the attack of a ship three and a half times its displacement carrying a far superior armament. That, or the Italian captain decided that the best thing for his ship to do was to chase a much faster cruiser he couldn't reasonably expect to catch instead of going after merchant shipping which my far lighter cruiser couldn't possibly hope to defend successfully against Giuseppe Garibaldi except by taking long enough to die for the merchant to get over the horizon.
(Sadly, I missed the opportunity to get Italy to bankrupt itself seizing a massive fleet of predreadnought battleships, but on the other hand I'm now allied to a power that has eight Italian-built predreadnought battleships fighting a war against Italy.) So far (March 1909) it appears that the Italian economy is doing about as well - or perhaps more accurately as poorly - as would normally be expected.

Not so much a humorous moment but definately an "Awwww, come on!!!" experience - -
Chasing down two British Light Cruisers with two of my own and thumping them pretty good. They make a run for Christiansted in the Virgin Islands. One is slowing dramatically just barely outside of the minefield on the the south side of the island and I think I can stop the other one before she gets around to the side of the island the port is on. Just as they reach the minefield they vanish. Poof!
The port is on the other side of the island!! Awwwwww, Come On!

The Brits probably stole hologram technology from Wakanda so it only looks like they steamed through the island.

Not sure if I'd say it's humorous, exactly, but ... ... it's also something I don't think I've ever seen before.
garrisonchisholm, I chose to end the Hawaiian game with all the Italian-built battleships at the default end date and the Italian economy seemed to be doing about as well (or as poorly) as would normally be expected.
Edit: Also, interesting first mission of the war: I guess I'm interrupting the US Navy's gunnery training or something, because I can't think of too many other reasons to be protecting a bombardment target outside Wilmington, North Carolina when I'm based out of Nova Scotia. Another alternative would perhaps be a commando raid turned sour ... but it's the first mission of the war.

Just had 2 AI minesweepers assigned to bombard a land target. I think that's worse than the previous single destroyer bombardment mission. Then one of my cruisers spotted an aircraft.

As A-H war have been just declared to Italy.
My armored cruisers (the worst 8600 tons but only by 20 knot speed) charge 2 enemy small armored cruisers (even smaller than mines). I have 2100 protected cruiser as scout and 3 small 300 tons destroyers. Italy has additonal 1 large and 1 medium protected cruisers and 4 destroyers.
Fight went well as my armor on my armored cruiser was able to withstand a lot of hits without any significant damage except decrease of speed to 18 knots (damage to uptakes) and it seems that after disabling one enemy cruiser I will win without single lost. However this change rapidly.

No magizine hit, just one 4" hit by HE shell and 300 tons ship is sinking. Quite strange.
Just to add the fun Italian destroyer of 500 tons 2/610 flooding points.

No magizine hit, just one 4" hit by HE shell and 300 tons ship is sinking. Quite strange. I don't think so, not really. It's a 300-ton ship, so it's tiny and has fairly little reserve buoyancy or ability to absorb damage, and it took a 4" shell somewhere on the bow or stern - probably bow, because that makes rapid sinking more likely. The ship was engaged, so it was probably steaming at or nearly at maximum speed, too, which would exacerbate the issue; even a dud hit that made a 4" hole in the bow low enough for water to enter easily might be enough to sink a 300-ton ship moving at high speed in short order - at just 21 knots, around 200 pounds of water could enter the ship through a 4" hole every second (~5.3 long tons or ~5.4 metric tons per minute), and the pressure of the water might be sufficient to enlarge the hole.

This I agree with your conclusion. But it was instance sinking. Hit and sinking message at same moment. So hit did practically all floating points.

I've seen 5-600 DD sunk instantly by 5in shell more than once.

The Amagi interests me, is that a Nelson-esq turret arrangement?

The Amagi interests me, is that a Nelson-esq turret arrangement? Looks more like G3/N3, which is ABQ in the game; Nelson is more like ABL.

The middle turret arrangement saves enough weight to get another inch or two of belt armor. The Nelson and G3 layout are functionally identical in RtW, it all comes down to personal preference. Since you don't have to worry about which way the turrets rotate like in World of Warships, I went with the G3 layout since I think it looks better.
Also, thanks garrisonchisholm!
