For a while now I've noticed that ship in service that I open design on will be over tonnage when I remember distinctly they were not when built. So why are they getting heavier as time progresses?
This poses several problems. The first is now they are overweight. To design a new ship involves the possibility it may not come in at speed. Also, existing designs slightly overweight pose some sort of extra sinking penalty to all those in service, yes? So I either build the same ship that's now overweight and now it will sink faster or I build a new ship and incur a 10% rebuild penalty and run the risk the ship will come in at a slower speed.
What's going on here? This has to be a bug. Tonnage creep is real.

It was in real life as well. Systems get added that increase weight, and a number of passive systems that become available through research would have a similar effect.
It could be a bug, or it could be an undocumented change to reflect what really happens with ship development/life.

Well, I'm cool with that. But what do we know about it? Some ships it's more than others. I'd like to know what to pad my ship with so it doesnt get sunk easier.

Looking at it further, I had an 80,000 ton BC I built in 1962 and it was underweight by a few tons, not over. Skip ahead three years and it's 413 tons overweight. Three years added 413 tons? No. Something is wrong.

I have seen this but only with cariers - a blank refit on an existing 10 year old aircraft carrier and ths ship is now overweight. By comparison a new ship of the same class can still be built and not be overweight.

Someone said in a different thread that this bug only appears with TPS 4. Are you guys seeing that?

No. Something is wrong. Did you have any tech increases/new tech added during that 3 year period? If so, that can increase the weight depending upon what tech it is. In 3 years, during the later portion of WW2, many US destroyers become so top heavy/overweight with added equipment that it became dangerous for them during storms and very heavy seas, and a 'weight reduction' plan had to be implemented.
