My coastal fortifications often sail around a little. Unfortunately they make not more than 8 knots, so they can't keep their position in battle line... I'm guessing you mean the adorable ship in your avatar???

If I'm having fun while playing the game, I've won.

If you combine ~100 subs on Unrestricted with a strong surface fleet and skill+luck at bringing the enemy to battle in a timely fashion, you can collapse nations in record time despite their flying boats doing your subs dirty every turn.

There's doctrine mechanic for that, but yes, it doesnt go far enough. Right now it seems to just be a "Make pilots gooder for xtra $$$" button.

A lack of skilled pilots was one of the defining failures of the IJN that kept their carriers out of action at various points. Currently, this is not an important factor in the game.

Doesn't seem possible: I have Southwest Africa and the Invasion circle includes South Africa, but the Invasion button is ghosted. Attachments:

I saved the game at the start of the battle, so maybe I can send it to you if I figure out which file(s) to send - zipping the entire Save4 folder creates too big of an attachment. 7zip is a free download and *.7z has a higher compression ratio than *.zip. Might be enough to compress it down to an attachable size, or you could host the file upload somewhere else (e.g. Google Docs, Dropbox) and link to it.
As to the minimum set of files which would be necessary, I suspect that that would be Autosave.sac, RTWGame#.sac if you manually saved the game during this battle, and the design files for all classes of ship involved in the battle.
Glory Hallelujah, 7Zip did the trick!

In my 1920 Germany Versailles start, I am cherishing the surviving 3 legacy CLs I have, even though they are utterly inadequate as combat vessels. I credit one of them with helping me seize the Angola colony a few months after the start of the game, and they helped my desperately-fought early game war with the Soviets. Now they sit and help provide foreign station tonnage, and I happily press Decline Battle on the rare occasion that an enemy (Read: The UK ) wants to fight out by Africa. The museum ship event is unlikely to fire, so I'm keeping them on the fleet rolls as a tribute.

When did you start the game? 1920 What nation were you playing? Germany Were there any start options that were not the default? Very Large Fleet, Treaty of Versailles, Historical London Treaty Describe the issue in detail. I just started a war against Britain, I am allied with France. I accepted a Coastal Raid as the first battle of the war and my carrier is starting right next to the enemy port! What were you doing when the bug occurred? See above. What did you expect to happen and how was the result you saw different than you expected. I expected my carriers to not start the mission off in ridiculously close contact with the enemy. Can you describe how to reproduce the bug? Play as Germany until your fleet has aircraft carriers, ally with France, and then start a war against the UK. Accept a Medium Coastal Raid mission, and see if it happens again. What version of the game were you playing? 1.03 (Game initially started under 1.02)

When did you start the game - 1900 or 1920? 1920 What nation were you playing? Germany Were there any start options that were not the default? Very Large fleet, Versailles Treaty, Historical London treaty Describe the issue in detail. I was bringing my fleet carriers out of mothballs and putting squadrons on them. I had some Veteran torpedo bomber and fighter squadrons left on my CVLs and land airbases, and I moved them to my fleet carriers. I think fought a Fleet Exercise against myself to practice fighting against an enemy with carriers, and to raise tensions with Britain. After the Fleet Exercise, I noticed I no longer had any Veteran squadrons of planes!
What were you doing when the bug occurred? see above. What did you expect to happen and how was the result you saw different than you expected. I actually expected my planes to gain experience the way ships do from a Fleet Exercise. Instead, I found they had lost it! Can you describe how to reproduce the bug? Move Veteran TBs + fighters from CVLs+Land bases to CVs just taken out of mothballs. Fight yourself in a Fleet Exercise. What version of the game were you playing?: Game started with 1.02, updated to 1.03 during game.
What's the best way to send the save-game, again? I remember it being said that it might be stored in some wacky place under Users... or I could just zip the Game4 folder.

Yeah, some keyboard shortcuts, copy-paste function, or template system is needed here. It is QUITE a lot of clicking to set up airgroups for multiple carriers or airbases, especially if you decommission most of your airforce and and mothball your fleet carriers in between wars to save big on maintenance.
This game relies too much on the mouse, and makes my mouse hand hurt after a while. More keyboard shortcuts in general would be a godsend.

I'll add a 4" gun to most possessions to help defend them from invasion in whatever calculations are made behind the scenes. I'll use 6" guns instead in places where I expect they might actually get a chance to fire one day. Sometimes, if experience shows me there is a lot of combat at a certain location, or if I feel worried about my airbases getting shelled, I'll add bigger guns. My current Germany game had me plonk down a 14" gun battery in my closest port to the Soviets in the Baltic, though that was from a 1920 Versailles start, where I was working with nearly no fleet at all early on! I don't recall my coastal guns ever shooting or sinking anything quite yet in RTW2, but I feel they do provide a deterrent value. After I installed that 14" gun battery, the Soviets didn't try and get close to my ports during coastal raids, when they memorably did once before it was installed.
I'll add another point to why airbases are far better than coastal guns OR ships: They're always exactly where you put them, and they're always included in battle. No random placement as with batteries or ships, and no random selection as with ships either. Not even any random events that knock them out. Weirdly, my heavier-than-air airbases weren't appearing in battle at all for my first war and for part of my second war. I scrapped my zeppelins since they were useless, and I feared they might be somehow preventing my other airbases from spawning...

I don't believe there was any objective marker.

Very Large Fleet, Treaty of Versailles, historical London Treaty Describe the issue in detail. I fought an Unexpected Destroyer Action and had to sink 2 ships to try and eke out a win. But, after sinking 3 KEs, I was told I had failed the objective. What were you doing when the bug occurred? Fighting an Unexpected Destroyer Action in the baltic versus Soviet Union. What did you expect to happen and how was the result you saw different than you expected. I expected to succeed and get the objective points to make this raid - and lost DDs - worth it. Can you describe how to reproduce the bug? I recall I got this same result with another battle of the same kind earlier in the war. What version of the game were you playing v1.03
