Is there a method of adding a ship type to the game? I wouid like to add River Monitors of about 1200-1800 tons, two 2-gun turrets with guns greater than 8 inches, low freeboard, speed about 18-20 knots. I would also like to just add others.
Help would be appreciated. I have designed a river monitor type on a KE ship type but I could not add guns greater that 5 inches. I am not sure I can even use the ships except for coastal protection but no matter.

Adding entirely new 'types' of ships goes beyond the current capabilities of the RTW2 game, sorry. The major issue of course is that the AI would need to know how to properly use any new types...

You should be able to glitch the game with the KE designation to allow it That would be the quick way to get such a ship to (more-or-less?) work, but ideally you would want some AI specifically for monitor-type work, etc...

Yeah, the AI does tend to use them pretty well on coastal defense though. I also tried torpedo gunboats as torpedo armed KE's and the AI seems great at using those for coastal work. Also, don't know if this is a bug, but KE's sunk in battle don't actually sink in the game, only those sunk by event do. PS. I also tried labeling some larger historical monitors as Bs, and the AI can use them pretty well in the line of battle they just unfortunately slow down for them

could you just assign monitor types (regardless of their in-game designation) to 'Trade Protection' so they stay out of your battle fleet but still appear off your coast in local battles?

You need to exceed the KE specs when designing (e.g. by adding a torpedo tube) and then hit "no" when the deigner ask to reclassify. The design will nevertheless be saved and you will be asked to finance its development...
This also works (kinda, with limits) for CL and CVL.

Here is my first attempt, based on your suggestion. Sorry for the clarity and size. I will improve that later. My plan is to design river monitors for coastal protection and coastal battleships. I will try to use fleet exercises to test my ideas.
