Can we set it up so the first BB built, at least by the UK, is always called Dreadnought?
:-D
As an AAR writer, trying to make everything an "Exmouth-type" just isn't gonna happen.

Dreadnought is the perfect name, and whoever decided to use it is awesome, but it really didn't need to be that name.

Not when talking about reality, but I think that it's fine in an alternate world. I have heard "Royal Sovereigns" for pre dreads before, and that seems a little fairer to them then their popular title.

"All Big Gun" works quite well. My first RN ABGs are generally called Nelson and Rodney (usually "Hexnaughts" in layout) but as the game doesn't let the British build them in a year and a day they tend to be less world shaking than they might...

Heretical idea: the game identify the name of the first "dreadnaught" being build in game, and uses this to designate this particular type for the remainder of the game.

Hi all, Just to point out that 'Dreadnaught' is an Americanisation - in Royal Navy service it is 'Dreadnought' - note the 'o' and not an 'a'.

I'm pretty sure we don't say that here in the states, its just an uncommon word, perhaps some parts of the country used it at one point before the famous RN battleship made the spelling consistent For example USS Dreadnaught en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Dreadnaught_(YT-34)and USS Dreadnought en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Dreadnought_(SP-584)

Just like some plot added in AARs, like "This kind of ship is called 'dreadnaught battleship' by British, but French tend to call it ...(shipname) battleship"

One US senator recommended calling the US version the 'Skeerdanuthin', which has a certain charm but is not easy to say.
I'd recommend you rename the ship during design/construction.

I suggest that we standardize battleship naming after the major stars in the sky. Examples are: 1. Sirius 2. Rigel 3. Vega 4. Betelgeuse 5. Pleiades 6. Antares 7. Canopus 8. Arcturus 9. Alpha Centauri 10. Capella 11. Procyon 12. Altair You could name them after constellations. After that name the cruisers after the stars in the constellations.
You could name battleships after planets and their moons.
You could try using famous mountain ranges like the Himalayas, Pamirs, Hindu Kush, Tian Shan, Andes, Caucasus. Alps, Zagros, Carpathians, Altai, Cascades, Sierra Madre del Sur. Use the famous topography in the country you are playing.
Keep in mind that ships are always referred to as "she". So find names of famous actresses and name them for that.
Come on guys, use your imagination. This is a counter-factual game, not real history.
