Minor quibble with the ship inset in the map screen. In rtw2, I could use this to see if my course allowed A arcs open and which turrets are damaged etc. The new graphics - while adding realism - make it difficult to see. The graphic really needs a magnification setting! The new graphics are very pretty but rather cluttered for battle views IMHO. Ships did mostly "clear for action" and a lot of those ship's boats would be towed behind, there's a good photograph around of the Turret Ship "Dreadnought" cleared for action in Malta. I've been playing around trying to make more historically 1890 stuff and I can do the ship design stuff ok but producing appropriate graphical treatments is going to take ages!

A bit further in, still loving it Used to RtW 1/2 Britain at the start being spread thin if there's a risk of war with two powers after the first few years, but Britain in the 1890s is (to be fair, as it was) a monster! Feel a teensy bit mean, but I'm sure economic growth in Germany will have them catch up and cause trouble soon emough Lots of little touches that make things better as well as the big things, the tweaks to the UI and so on a great. Being able to move whole divisions at once is excellent The British had just (1889) formally adopted the "Two Power Standard", driven by a panic over a potential Franco-Russian alliance. The game seems to reflect their fleet size OK but because the 1890 start basically ignores all thought of representing the ageing diversity that IRL made up the RN Battlefleet at this time the force you get is extremely modern and will mostly be entirely viable for the next ten years without any great need to modernise... (It was the thought of trying to fight anyone with their ageing ships that largely triggered the fear after all!) The real RN Battlefleet in 1890 should have 6 Admiral class Barbette Ships (these often make up most of the fleet it gives you if my several test starts are anything to go by?), 5 or 6 masted turret ships (including the 16 inch gunned Inflexible), a handful of more sensibly arranged Turret Ships (including the actually quite good HMS Dreadnought), about a dozen ageing Central Battery Ironclads (many of which are being used in colonial service as Flags on various foreign stations and indeed get re-classed from "3rd class Battleship" to "Armoured Cruiser" through the next decade) plus a bunch of very Coastal Defence Things (which can safely be ignored TBH). The total of Capital Ships is roughly OK (on Super Size / FS8) but it's MUCH too modern and homogenous! I've started designing all the older stuff (with the aid of sneaky design file edits in some cases) and even plan on adding small (200 tons is as small as the game goes sadly) Torpedo Boats to allow Jeune Ecole high jinks plus those 500+ ton "Torpedo Gunboats" as the historically common counter. The real grind will be making evrything look even close to as pretty/cluttered as the new graphics do! It's AT LEAST tripled the time it takes to do each design! Sigh... The Cruisers are even worse! Everyone gets loads of 20+ Knot Light Cruisers of the sort that they are still going to be building in ten years time (incrementally improved but entirely comparable) plus the odd CA (these are somewhat less OP and more nearly in keeping with historical reality). There's a handfull of Corvettes (IRL RN should have c.50...this really is the age of "Gunboat Diplomacy" after all) but they are also too modern looking as they nearly all featured near full rigging to aid strategic mobility covering the globe. Also... literally NO torpedo craft at 1890 game start. Harrumph!

Played for a while as the UK. Very quickly got my docks up to around 40,000. Began producing monster ships. Destroyed France twice, I own everything that was French in Africa now, other than Algiers and Madagascar. A bunch of socialism later, which I supported to reduce the unrest rate, and Germany seems to have a higher budget than me. A couple years later, and we're at war. Austria + Germany vs Italy + me. We'll see how it goes. It's the beginning of the aircraft age, and I have no idea what I'm doing. My fleet is beginning to crumble, as I just scrapped all my pretty good but very out of date Armored Cruisers from the 1890s to replace them for new BBs to meet the threat of Germany.
It's 1915, and I recently demolished the Austrian BC fleet losing 1 B to a torpedo or turret explosion, I don't remember, however Germany has the most BBs. I'm scared. I'm playing on ultra fleet sizes, and unfortunately no Jutland style battles yet. Aircraft is being researched, so that's fun.
Immediate Thoughts on the game? Someone needs to make a CSA mod. Otherwise, it's what I expect from RTW. I probably shouldn't have such a big ship in 1915, but IDC, that can be fixed with mods or a patch later.
All that being said, what's interesting is that even with my super high budget, I'm struggling to keep up with the rest of the world. Probably a skill issue, but we'll see. My prestige is super high as well, because I nuked France twice, and in the second time, I destroyed a lot of convoys.

Loving it so far! Loved RTW2 but the fact that it was you vs all others turned me off a bit. That the AI nations now also have wars is a really nice addition for me. Also like the new generated ship graphics. If there was one thing I'd like to see is the ability to tell the ship generator what tonnage it should use. Another small addition would be to just re-generate the ship graphics (like when you add a turret to a design but it looks out of place on the GFX) Otherwise, I'm having wayyyy too much fun getting a mod to work I haven't even tried the basic game yet.

I quite like the game so far, but I wish I were able to try out the fancy Cold War stuff. As Japan, I got to 1947 and then got in a war with the Soviets, who had around 30 subs in the Pacific (around 70 overall). These subs somehow caused my nation to collapse from shortages even though I had more than 40 modern destroyers with 370 overall ASW (and also 8 carriers) hunting for them and had a 10:1 VP advantage lmao. And yes, I did sink three quarters of his entire sub fleet, still didn't stop me from getting sacked. I wish sub performance got nerfed, they seem way too cost-effective (medium subs cost a fifth of what my destroyers do, and even small corvettes cost roughly the same as a sub).

You should be able to reposition turrets pretty easily by right clicking their box in the ship designer(or is that not what you're asking) If you want to use a particular tonnage AI design, you can load the templates directly from the graphics tab

So I took Hawaii and Midway. I feel like the game lacks a lot of Jutland style engagements. Would love to see a massive battle between the US and British ships around Maine, but that never happened. Almost took Maine in an invasion BTW, but we made peace before I took it. British world domination continues into the age of airplanes with the first 3 LCVs. I plan on having 7.
I know you can mod the game to create those Jutland type engagements, but I don't know how yet.

I boosted the Fleet Size up to 12 (Super is 8) for my RTW2 "Quasi-Historical" AAR, Go into the first turn save game, open the "RTWGameX.bcs" file with Notepad, fine "FleetSize=" (very near the top) and change to whatever (now sure I'd recommend more than 12 tbh, I tweaked it back down to 9 or 10 after the WW1-ish era with some of my runs as German and USA had c.40 BCs each, which is a bit OTT even for me) then save. I saw quite a few full bore fleet actions (20+ Battleships plus 4-12 CA/BCs a side). May take a few years to ramp up though? I started mine with fully custom "Historical" (-ish) fleets for everyone so got big quite fast. Try it and enjoy!

So you replace those...but chances are you are now left with ship graphics with a completely empty middle section and a turret where the aft mast is generated. So it would be nice if, somehow (no idea if its feasable) new graphics could be generated based on the turret layout.

I've nearly finished a full Japan run, and I like a lot of the changes, although with supporting formations most battles got quite large, which is interesting when it's and enemy coastal shipping raid and you hammer them quite well but because they sank two of your destroyers they get a nice score bonus so it's technically a minor loss. Also had an interesting moment during defending another coastal raid, still mobilising, and I get a squeaky bum start: That would be my two newest fleet carriers with no escorts as my forward units, and you can't change course to begin with. Luckily I was able to do so before visual contact was made with the enemy. You should be able to reposition turrets pretty easily by right clicking their box in the ship designer(or is that not what you're asking) If you want to use a particular tonnage AI design, you can load the templates directly from the graphics tab Sorry if I was unclear, what I meant was the following: You generate a ship and you really like the design, but, for instance, you want a superfiring aft turret instead of wing turrets. I think those initial generations are from templates, so I don't think you can easily get full auto-generation. You can shift all the elements though if you need to, go to the graphics tab and again right click in the list on what you want to move.

I've had a few fleet engagements (medium-sized fleet for first run) in the 1890s in multiple wars with the very unlucky Germany. The last one was actually really Jutland-like, in that we met in the evening, they saw my line, decided discretion was the better part of value, and retreated (Unlike Jutland, I didn't have any BCs to explode - I'm sure they'll come later - and I managed to catch about half of them before they got back to base). It was always a bit random in RtW1 and 2 though, and I expect it might be similar in 3. Hopefully you'll get some big fleet battles soon

Best thing is to auto-design till you have similar turret arrangement you would like to have, I do it this way myself. Or you can directly load from templates and choose one.

Played a China 1935 start. Actually survived until 1970 and beyond. Didn't do much fighting in the pre-missile age. I had one war with Germany that was basically a sub/raider battle. I had more VP and thought I won it but apparently it was a loss and I took a massive prestige hit. I ended up at 15 prestige but managed to hang on.
I tried to go for an aircraft spam route, I only had DDs though I was building a small BC in America at one point. In the early 50's I ended up fighting the Soviets and my American ally abandoned me. I lost most of my DD's but the war ended in a stalemate without my aircraft doing much. In the late 50's I ended up fighting the Soviets again and this time the Americans joined. I had some early success with some early missile DD's and a my first light cruiser that was all gun. I was keeping VP relatively even until around the 10k mark.Eventually though, more Soviet missile equipped ships started showing up. Also every single battle we had the Soviets had multiple carriers no matter how small. Even the destroyer engagements. Eventually I lost all my missile equipped ships. Most battles ended up being all gun DDs that were course locked until they met the enemy - at which point they got swarmed with missiles and aircraft. Eventually most battles consisted of 1 of my gun DDs and some American cruisers. They didn't go well either. My aircraft didn't do anything and was taking up my entire budget. After the war I was left with five DDs - 4 legacy and 1 American-made 1940s design. I was not a fan of how the course lock is engaged until you are in missile engagement range.
After this war I scrapped all my aircraft and started building a fleet of 900-1100 ton DD's equipped with missiles that would operate with a few larger helicopter equipped DD's and a few CLs with medium SAMs. I also built a helicopter AV with heavy SAMs but I guess I didn't have the right tech to put it a division so it never showed up in a battle once. In the mid 1960s I joined Italy in a war against France. I ended up sweeping through all of French territory in Southeast Asia. Aircraft were pretty useless, my missile boats did all the work. The French consistently matched my forces but never more than mine. There was one battle where the landing zone was between two shore batteries - that was a nice feature I didn't see often in RtW2 and thankfully eventually the French declined that battle and allowed us to land. I was really happy to see these invasions not only happen quickly but not cost so much. It was a massive improvement over RtW2 invasions.
As for ship editor, I had some issues. Some of the mounts place in really odd places, especially some of the rear centerline ones. I get you can replace mounts, but a P position shouldn't place behind a Q position etc. I've seen that happen a few times, it's almost random. On autogenerated DD's with helipads I couldn't remove the helipad no matter what I did (the box was grayed out). Secondary batteries are often place on the edge of the ships hull and I even saw AI designs with secondary batteries off the hull. I also wish you could reorder the layering of visuals.

There are no divisions for AVs it seems.
