So we have the ability to toggle pausing on flooding damage for different vessels. Why not fire? I had a cruiser that was moderately damaged, but otherwise ok, detaching to base. About halfway back to base, unbeknownst to me amidst the rest of the battle, a fire broke out.
By the time I noticed and checked in on it, the fire had gotten too severe to handle and the otherwise perfectly good (and new class of) armored cruiser had to be abandoned. A toggle to allow us to pause on fire damage like flotation damage would be very welcome and could save players a lot of hassle from losing ships unknowingly.

Is there anything apart from sending to base that affects firefighting? I know slowing helps flooding, but does it help against fires?

I stopped actually and I still lost it. Regardless - the bottom line is that a simple alert like pausing for fires would have let me know to stop/slow sooner. I already had it heading back at reduced speed to prevent any potential bulkhead ruptures, but by the time I realized it was on fire, it was engulfed.

When I got fast flooding or serious fires in battle I not only stop the ship but also cease fire. I *think* this helps, maybe because the crew can concentrate on the damage, at least I could save some ships. But I donĀ“t know if this is coincidence or really calculated by the game engine.
A fire warning indeed would be nice!
