Hello fellow admirals,
To hype up the RtW2 launch, I will be doing a Rule the Waves fleet design tournament this week. You design four ship types (BB, BC, CL, DD) with end-game technology, within certain (WNT) tonnage restrictions, and submit those designs to me.
I will then put together a tournament bracket and begin simulating the combat between different player submissions (using my simulator). The winner may even get a prize!
The tournament rules are based on Washington Naval Treaty regulations. Here they are:
Tortuga's Rule the Waves Multiplayer Tournament Fleet Competition Rules
A. Design Files - using full tech (1925+) - 1 BB (x4 ships) - 1 BC (x2 ships) - 1 CL (x6 ships) - 1 DD (up to 12 ships)
B. Tonnage 1. BB & BC: max tonnage per ship of 35,000; max total for all six of 200,000 tons 1a. BC minimum speed of 29 kts; BB minimum speed of 21 kts 2. CL: maximum 6-inch guns; max tonnage per ship of 6,000; max total of 36,000 tons 2a. minimum speed 29 kts 3. DD: max 5-inch guns; total tonnage of 12,000 tons; choose one of the following: 3a. {12x 1,000 ton; 10x 1,200 ton; 8x 1,500 ton}, min. speed 30 kts
C. Design Restrictions: 1. Minimum ammunition is 100 2. Crew accommodations set to normal (not cramped) 3. Medium Range 4. Normal engine priority 5. Obviously, no mods (vanilla designs)
D. Divisions - 1 BB division (4 ships) - 1 BC division (2 ships) - 2 CL divisions (3 ships each) - 2-3 DD divisions (3 divs of 4 ships, 2x5, or 2x4)
E. Combat Scoring 1. Total tonnage of ships sunk. 2. Health of surviving capital ships. 3. If fleet results are inconclusive (e.g. no capital ships or cruisers sunk), battle is simulated again.
In case you don't have a save game with all endgame technology, here (attached) is a Game2 save folder with everything necessary to design endgame ships.
Interested in participating? Check the next post for the details on how to submit your fleet!
Deadline for submission: Saturday, May 11th, at 12:00pm GMT (8am EDT, 5am PDT).
I will stream the video of the tournament on Saturday, May 11th, time: 2:30pm PDT / 5:30pm EDT / 9:30pm GMT.
Good luck and good hunting! Tortuga

Files needed to submit: 1x BB design 1x BC design 1x CL design 1x DD design 1x "fleet_playername.txt" file (put your name in "playername")**
Zip these 5 files together. (Any typical archive is fine: .zip, .rar. .7z, .tar)
Instructions with "fleet_playername.txt"
1. Rename the design files, e.g. test_BB.20d, test_BC.20d, etc. to your design files! (I recommend using the "Replace" function.) 2. (Optional) Rename the ships as you'd like. 3. (Optional) Rename the divisions as you'd like.
You're done!
How to submit your file? Some ideas:
Please email me your zip to ( tortugapoweryt@gmail.com ), subject line "Rule the Waves Tournament".
(If this is somehow impossible, send me a message here, but I want to keep them all by email now to help with organization.)

sounds interesting im 100% in now i just need to figure out how i can cheese this competition
(LOOKS AT 212 TORPEDO TUBE EQUIPPED FLEET)
also any chance for heavy cruisers to be added to the competition ? or are we keeping it light cruiser levels the heavy cruisers would of course follow the naval treaty like this limited to a maximum displacement of 10,000 tons and a maximum gun calibre of 8 inches (Articles XI and XII) of the Washington Naval Treaty

Also, the conditions make it more an exercise in prioritisation because you can't have everything you could on a 52,000t dreadnought.

ok lets see how this goes 4x 35k BBs 2x 30k BCs 6x 6k CLs 12x 1k DDs gave them all a quick translated french class name and based the names of the capital ships on that. no screenshots so nobody builds dedicated counters. Tortuga RTW Tournament.zip (6.29 KB)

Two brief notes:
1. I updated the minimum speed requirements for CL and DD after receiving a question. In general, please use "common sense" designs -- so DDs that are several knots slower than the BCs are a bit nonsensical.
2. Please do not open and copy other people's designs. Feel free to email your designs (tortugapoweryt@gmail.com) if you're worried about your designs being stolen, but... really, let's have a gentlemen's agreement not to peak.

In my day 22 knot CLs were the bees knees and we were happy with them! Kids these days... I actually took the tactical decision to lose speed in favour of guns but I suppose 1 knt doesn't make much of a difference. Thanks for understanding though. My DD does 30 knts I think so that's fine.

Having just spoken with tortugapower , I have decided that NWS will give away a free copy of RTW2 to the winner of this contest!
Best of luck to everyone in the contest!
Please keep in mind that tortugapower is solely responsible for determining the winner and/or how the contest is ran, we (NWS) just supply the free RTW2 copy to the winner

Interesting... Not fussed about winning, I think I'd rather find the most outlandish set of designs I can come up with.
