So the game is true to life - because Japan couldn't afford that in our history, either.
Seems like it should be the military demanding 9 capital ships from the PM, rather than the other way around.

I mean that’s basically the 8-8 fleet I already have an 8-8 fleet, the battlecruisers already being built will take it to 8-12, and the ones he's demanding would take me to 8-15. I have enough battlecruisers! It's okay!

But is it an 8-8-8 fleet? That would be carriers, not more battleships or battlecruisers. The 8-8-8 Fleet predates carriers, its the wwI doctrine of having 8 BBs and 8BCs that are less than 8 years old.

I have never seen this happen. I don't know whether to be impressed or upset. They actually hit! Edit: and the results screen, because why not. I might have been a tiny bit cavalier with my DDs, but it was definitely worth it. I feel like Russia had a very top-heavy, battlecruiser centered fleet that didn't fare well against my "all of the light forces" composition. Shout out to my predreadnoughts for providing a surprisingly effective if slow backstop. Ha, I also find that message that precedes such evens so amusingly bizarre:

The fastest war I ever fought: The Russians were bulled by Mr. President (and US navy), declared war, declined small cruiser battle and collapsed even before US submarines reap their first harvest... And old screenshot from large convoy battle in Baltic. Fortunately for Germans, ships can ram only enemies in game...

Yes, I know, these "carried over" invasion battles should be relieved in 1.21, but I'm still playing on 1.20, so I still get such amusing initial positions of fleets:

couple of amusing moments recently
1) destroyer battle in southern North Sea - the usual 6 or so NL DDs spot the enemy (Germany) - first one then another and another and so on ------ the dutch admiral decided discretion better part of valour one torpedo spread and then 180 degree turn and exit at flank speed - actually sank a few German DDs. in the post battle review it turns out there were 33 German destroyers which from the Almanac was their entire amount of DDs !
2) 1936 NL start with Seawolf's real ships so I can get to use the 1047 NL BCs, told the diplomats not to agree to any treaties - they signed up to WNT on steroids - no new builds over 10000 T or over 8" guns so my 3 x BCs under construction all scrapped :-(

At 18 knots, that's not a battle-cruiser but a battle-trawler instead.
